Crystal Palace have spoken to Celtic target Eddie Howe to potentially become their new manager.

That’s according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, who have been informed of the contact between the two parties from a Selhurst Park source. The 43-year-old is believed to be among Palace’s top targets to replace Roy Hodgson, with the 73-year-old’s deal at Selhurst Park concluding in the summer.

Celtic had verbally agreed a deal with Howe to become Neil Lennon’s long-term successor, but the Englishman has now had second thoughts over a Parkhead switch.

Howe admitted way back in November that his next position in management would have to be one which ‘really motivated’ him.

It seemed as if Glasgow could be a potential destination following face-to-face talks with Dermot Desmond, with Howe having experience of rebuilding a club during his time at Bournemouth.

One of his assurances before penning terms with the Hoops was reported to be bringing Cherries director Richard Hughes with him. Celtic were thought to be closing in on Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin to fill the newly-created director of football role, with a deal reportedly 90% done last month.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons for Howe holding off signing with Celtic, and it now appears as if he is talking with Palace ahead of a potential Premier League return. The Hoops could yet come to regret not doing enough to secure the 43-year-old’s services.

Além do show nas arquibancadas, a torcida do Cruzeiro alcançou uma ótima marca nos números para o time neste ano. Na vitória por 2 a 0 diante do Santa Cruz, as 49.208 pessoas que foram ao Mineirão registraram o maio público do futebol mineiro até agora nesta temporada.

Antes do confronto pela 22ª rodada, o maior público que o Cruzeiro já tinha levado no Mineirão em 2016 havia acontecido na partida contra o Vitória, quando 43.822 torcedores compareceram ao estádio.

O maior público geral na temporada segue com a partida da Seleção feminina do Brasil. Nas quartas de final dos Jogos Olímpicos, 52.660 pessoas compareceram ao Mineirão para ver a vitória das meninas sobre as australianas nos pênaltis.

A temporada 2016 vem sendo até o momento muito especial para o atacante Paulinho Moccelin, do Londrina. Sobre a partida de ida das quartas de final do Campeonato Paranaense neste domingo, Paulinho acredita que o Londrina terá pela frente a dificuldade habitual de quando se enfrenta um clube do nível do Atlético-PR. O jogador lembra do encontro entre as duas equipes na primeira fase, quando empataram em um a um no Estádio Vitorino Gonçalves Dias. Many West Bromwich Albion fans have flocked to a tweet from The Telegraph’s John Percy in which issued an update on West Brom’s interest in former Leicester City attacker Ahmed Musa. 

Albion have recently been linked with a move for the £5.4m-rated man, who is a free agent after departing from Saudi club Al-Nassr, back in October. 

Now, Percy has revealed that the 28-year-old is set to train with the Baggies for the week, with manager Sam Allardyce thinking about offering him a short-term deal at The Hawthorns.

Speaking exclusively to Transfer Tavern, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey discussed Fabio Silva’s penalty shout in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

In the fixture itself, Spurs took the lead in the first minute, as Tanguy Ndombele’s shot from the edge of the penalty area found its way past Wolves ‘keeper, Rui Patricio.

And, it appeared as if Spurs had done enough to win the fixture, as Jose Mourinho’s side led until the 86th minute, only for Romain Saiss to brilliantly glance a header home in the dying moments, with the match finishing 1-1.

However, Wolves could well have taken all three points from the fixture, had a penalty been awarded early in the second half, when it appeared that Eric Dier made contact with Fabio Silva, who subsequently hit the deck, only for Paul Tierney to wave away the challenge, with VAR subsequently deeming the referee’s call not a clear and obvious error.

“The concerning thing is, if you look, the assistant is right there, he’s got a great view,” Halsey told Transfer Tavern. “The referee is quite some distance from it, but the assistant is right there.”

He continued: “I think on-field officials are now getting lazy, they’re relying on VAR too much and, the reason I think that the VAR never got involved was because they’re looking at it saying, ‘Is it a clear and obvious error?’

“Now, had a penalty been given that in the first place, I don’t believe VAR would have overturned it. I think Wolves were unlucky, they should’ve had a penalty.”

So, according to Halsey, it would indeed appear as if Nuno Espirito Santo can feel arrived that his side were not awarded a penalty in the second half, which could well have seen them leave the fixture will all three points, rather than the one they ended up taking from the match.

What is also interesting is Halsey’s wider claim that officials appear to be relying on VAR too much, and are thus being less decisive with their calls on the pitch, which could lead to incidents such as Dier’s challenge on Fabio Silva going unpunished.

Agora, quer se firmar na equipe e conquistar mais títulos.

– Esse ano eu quero buscar minha titularidade, ter uma sequência de bastante jogos e poder ganhar títulos. Joguei bastante o Brasileirão do ano passado (22 partidas), mas não o campeonato todo. Vamos ter no começo do ano o Paulista e a Libertadores, e seria muito importante ganhar um título e me firmar cada vez mais no Corinthians. Essa é minha meta para 2016 – disse Bruno Henrique.

O novo dono da posição tem bastante diferença em relação a Ralf. Enquanto Bruno Henrique tem mais facilidade para chegar ao ataque e finalizar, o antigo camisa 5 ficava mais preso na marcação. A qualidade para apoiar o setor ofensivo tem explicação: o camisa 25 costumava a atuar como segundo volante, mas foi deslocado pelo técnico Tite.

Já adaptado à posição, Bruno Henrique não esconde o gosto por sair jogando, ir para o ataque e até tentar finalizar. Ele acredita, inclusive, que essa característica pode ser o diferencial para se destacar no time e surpreender os adversários.

– Minha característica é de segundo volante mesmo, cheguei no Corinthians assim. A adaptação de primeiro volante foi aqui, nunca tinha jogado nessa posição antes. Mas eu gostei muito de jogar nessa posição também, o Tite me dá liberdade para eu sair com bola dominada quando der, e o Rodriguinho e o Elias cobrem a minha posição. Gosto de pegar a bola e sair jogando, acho isso bem interessante. Pode ser meu diferencial. O fato de eu ter atuado muito tempo como segundo volante facilita – analisou.

Com objetivos traçados, Bruno Henrique está ciente de sua responsabilidade nesta temporada e acredita que corresponderá à altura. É o que a Fiel também espera.

Após a debandada, como analisa o time do Corinthians em 2016?
Demos boas provas na pré-temporada e contra o XV que nosso time pode render, apesar de estar no começo do ano. Saíram jogadores importantes, mas nosso grupo já era muito forte no ano passado. O torcedor espera que a gente dê uma resposta o mais rápido possível, e a gente quer isso também.

Acha que briga por títulos?
A gente sempre entra para brigar, independentemente de ter saído jogadores. O Corinthians sempre chega forte, o nosso grupo é muito bom e vamos brigar por títulos.

Quais são suas diferenças em relação ao Ralf?
O Ralf era um grande jogador, não tem nem o que discuritr. Era um cara que dava muita proteção para a zaga, é muito difícil encontrar atualmente um jogador com as características dele. Ele é mais defensivo e eu sou mais ofensivo, acho que essa é a principal diferença. Mas agora já estou adaptado a essa função de primeiro volante, já vinha jogando assim desde que cheguei aqui no Corinthians.

São mais difíceis esses primeiros jogos da temporada?
A gente sofre um pouco no começo até pegar ritmo de jogo, os times do interior começam a treinar antes. O que mais a gente espera é entrosar rápido. Nós estamos trabalhando bastante para isso. Talvez a gente sofra no começo, o que é normal também, com jogadores saindo e outros chegando. Mas queremos corresponder, o torcedor espera uma resposta rápida, e a gente espera fazer bons jogos neste início do Paulistão.

Qual recado você manda à Fiel?
Peço para o torcedor nos apoiar como sempre nos apoiou. Agora vamos precisar ainda mais porque teve saídas de jogadores e estamos reformulando. É um momento difícil. Que a gente caminhe juntos para ganhar títulos.

Liverpool dropped another two points in their hopes of retaining the Premier League title as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.

One man who will have disappointed Jurgen Klopp with his performance was winger Mohamed Salah, as the Egyptian struggled to stamp his authority on the game.

The winger was also guilty of missing two huge chances for the Reds either side of half time, first being denied by Karl Darlow, before putting his shot well wide after being found through on goal by Roberto Firmino.

As per SofaScore, the former Roma man earned a 6.0 rating for his display, which comfortably ranked him as the worst player on the pitch from both sides, as he struggled to have any real influence on the game going forward.

Klopp’s side finish 2020 top of the league but the German manager will surely be furious that Salah couldn’t finish his chances during the game, as that would’ve ensured a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester United.

During his time on the pitch, the 28-year-old touched the ball just 31 times, which was one fewer than the 32 touches of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

Despite this, the winger was still able to lose possession on eight occasions, with the Newcastle defence seemingly getting the better of him, so it was no surprise when Xherdan Shaqiri replaced Salah with a few minutes remaining.

Liverpool Echo were also critical of the Egyptian’s display, rating him 5/10 following the game, suggesting that it wasn’t his night and that he was wasteful in front of goal.

Back in 2019, the winger was heavily praised by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, who said:

“Unfortunately for Mo, it didn’t work out here but it is great credit to him. He went to Italy and then came back and now he’s a superstar.”

Following the disappointing draw at St James Park, it seems clear that Liverpool will need to be much-improved when they face Southampton away from home in their next Premier League fixture, otherwise, they risk dropping off the top of the league.

Tottenham Hotspur have seen many players come and go through their promising academy set-up but did they miss a trick with one player back in 2010?

The likes of Harry Kane and Harry Winks have gone onto become first-team regulars in north London but that’s not always the case as seen with Tom Carroll, Steven Caulker and many more.

Over 13 years ago, Spurs poached young defender Yuri Berchiche from Athletic Bilbao, but it now seems like the La Liga outfit have had the last laugh.

The Basque international failed to make a single senior appearance during four years in north London and was forced out on loan to Cheltenham Town and Vallodolid before returning to Spain permanently.

Where is Berchiche now?

Via a title-winning campaign with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2017/18, Berchiche finds himself back at the San Mames Stadium where he has become solid option in the Spanish top-flight.

He re-joined his childhood club in a €20m (£18m) deal, signing a mega-contract until the summer of 2022. It contains a whopping €100m (£90m) release clause.

The 30-year-old has racked up a total of 79 appearances since the move two years ago, and his record of eight goals and six assists is pretty impressive considering he’s a left-back by trade.

Berchiche has started all three of Bilbao’s league games this term, where he has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.3 clearances, one key pass, one shot and one dribble per game, via WhoScored.

Whilst it is unlikely that anyone activates that sort of clause for someone entering the twilight years of their career, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy must surely regret not keeping hold of the Spaniard considering the fees he’s commanded over the years.

We know the tough-negotiator likes to make a bit of money from time to time.

If only Harry Redknapp gave him that opportunity a decade ago, things could have been very different now. Berchiche has clearly thrived in some of Europe’s top leagues, so it was certainly a regrettable mistake on Spurs’ part.
