McAvennie says Ajer wants to quit Celtic

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has exclusively told Football FanCast that he believes defender Kristoffer Ajer wants to leave the Parkhead side this summer.

He’s contracted until the end of next season, but has been told to quit by Norway manager Stale Solbakken in order to challenge himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues and improve on the international stage.

Ajer has been with Celtic for four seasons and has been a regular under both Neil Lennon and John Kennedy this term, starting all-but two of their Scottish Premiership matches, plus five of their six Europa League games.

However, the Norwegian has already been linked with an £8m move to Newcastle should they avoid being relegated, and McAvennie appears to believe that Ajer’s future lies away from Glasgow.

McAvennie has previously slammed Ajer for his comments about this being his best season at the club, and has blamed him for part of Celtic’s defensive struggles.

He told Football FanCast:

“I think Ajer has made it clear that he wants to go.

“His Norwegian manager has made it clear that he’s got to go – he seems to think that Scottish football is not doing him any good.

“It’s not doing him any good because they’re letting in goals. It doesn’t take Einstein to work out that it’s the defence’s fault.”

Robinson urges Gelhardt to prove his worth

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that youngster Joe Gelhardt can prove his worth in the next few months.

The Whites have enjoyed a successful first season back in the Premier League, sitting 11th in the table with nine matches remaining. There is no threat of relegation for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who have been a breath of fresh air in the top flight, with very few of their games proving to be dull.

In Gelhardt, Leeds having a hugely promising young talent who is pushing to make his first team debut for the club, having joined from Wigan Athletic last August.

Robinson tips Gelhardt to feature

Someone who thinks this is now a great chance for the 18-year-old to shine is Robinson, with the ex-England ‘keeper telling MOT Leeds News that this is Gelhardt’s opportunity to show Bielsa he can be trusted moving forward:

“It just shows how far he’s come in the last 12 months and what the manager thinks of him.

“I don’t think he’s going to start games if Patrick Bamford is fit but this is his big opportunity for the manager to take a look at him in the Premier League.

“He might influence Bielsa’s transfer activity in the summer. This is his opportunity to prove that he doesn’t need to sign another striker in the summer.

“Bielsa has hinted that he’ll get minutes so he obviously thinks very highly of him.

“This is his opportunity to show what he can do. Leeds are definitely safe already, they’ve got more than enough points and it gives Bielsa the opportunity to take a look at his talented youngsters.”

Transfer tavern take

Bielsa will no doubt be eyeing up reinforcements this summer, but if Gelhardt impresses in the remaining games of the season, it may turn his manager’s head.

The teenager is an attacking player with seemingly huge potential and, having frequently been on the bench for the first team in recent weeks, it will be exciting to see him handed an opportunity between now and May if he gets his opportunity.

WHU: Fans react to insider’s Masuaku update

Some fans of West Ham United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which ExWHUemployee provided an update on the fitness of West Ham left-back, Arthur Masuaku.

So far this season, Masuaku has made 10 Premier League appearances for David Moyes’ side, providing one assist and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.87 – ranking the £6.75 million-rated defender as the club’s sixth-best performer in the top flight.

However, the 27-year-old has not featured for the Hammers in the league since December of last year, having undergone surgery on a knee injury.

Although, in a recent post on Twitter, the reliable insider ExWHUemployee claimed that the DR Congo international should make a return from the sidelines in the next two to four weeks, something which appeared to please a number of the West Ham fan base, many of whom flocked to share their delight at the insider’s injury update regarding the left-back.

Man City fans livid over Aguero claim

According to post match reports by ESPN, via City Xtra, Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero was heard addressing the lack of passes to him on the pitch during the Sky Blues’ 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Last 16 – prompting supporters to react on social media.

As relayed by City Xtra on Twitter, Aguero is understood to have taken an issue with his teammates’ decisions in the forward positions after he was brought on as a substitute – simply stating ‘they don’t pass me the ball’ as he left the pitch upon full time.

The Argentine has been steadily re-introduced by manager Pep Guardiola following a number of injury issues, including a serious meniscus tear last season which kept him out of action for a while.

As he nears the end of his current contract at the Etihad, the prospect of losing Aguero or potential unrest on his part raises concern among supporters – who rightfully hold a special sentiment for the club’s all time top goal scorer.

One Sky Blue, as a result, labelled this news as ‘terrible’ – find all of their reactions on social media down below.

Musa having WBA medical

According to Football Insider, Ahmed Musa is having a medical at West Bromwich Albion ahead of a move to the Hawthorns.

Musa having medical

Musa is a free agent, meaning that a deal does not need to be done before the deadline. However, that hasn’t stopped the Baggies making a move on the final day of the window.

This latest report says he is having a medical with the club and is putting the finish touches to a move to the Midlands.

Another attacking option

Sam Allardyce has already captured one striker this window, with Mbaye Diagne joining on loan from Galatasaray (wba.co.uk). Now, though, it appears another forward will be moving to the club. Musa has scored 88 goals throughout his career (Transfermarkt), and has impressed particularly at World Cups, scoring four goals across two tournaments.

Valued at £5.4m (Transfermarkt), Musa did have a failed spell at Leicester City, but he is clearly a player with plenty of talent. If Allardyce can get the most out of the Nigeria international, he could be hugely important in the battle for Premier League survival.

Kop want Naby Keita to leave Liverpool %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Many Liverpool fans concluded that midfielder Naby Keita should be sold next summer after he suffered another setback.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference before tonight’s FA Cup tie against Aston Villa (via James Pearce), manager Jurgen Klopp confined that the 25-year-old will not be fit enough to face Dean Smith’s side.

Keita has suffered various injury issues this season and hasn’t started a game since the Reds’ 7-0 win against Crystal Palace last month.

The Guinea international is sidelined, along with Joel Matip and Diogo Jota, in a game that is essentially in doubt after a mass coronavirus outbreak in the Villa camp.

With this in mind, supporters have had enough of Keita and some believe that his time at Anfield is coming to a screeching halt.

West Brom were silly to not sign Andre Ayew in the summer

West Brom find themselves second-from-bottom going into this weekend’s crucial Premier League tie against Sheffield United, but might their fortunes have been more favourable had they signed Andre Ayew?

What was the word?

Ahead of the summer domestic deadline, the Baggies were linked with a move for the Ghanian forward by the Daily Mail, who claimed he had emerged as a potential late target for a host of top-flight teams.

Ayew rejoined Swansea City in the summer of 2018 for a club-record £18m having left them two years earlier to link up with Albion boss Slaven Bilic at West Ham.

It’s no wonder the Croatian wanted to work with him again…

One that got away?

The 30-year-old continues to be a crucial cog in Steve Cooper’s attack having scored six goals in 11 starts so far this campaign. He has also provided one assist and is averaging 3.3 shots, 2.3 dribbles and 1.2 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

Ayew has split time between playing as a centre-forward as well as a right-winger, the position he primarily played under Bilic at the Hammers.

This is also a role that Albion are particularly weak in with natural no.10 Matheus Pereira often being deployed there over the likes of Matty Phillips, Kyle Edwards and Kamil Grosicki.

You’d imagine that the veteran, who has bags of experience in the Premier League (89 appearances), would’ve been a shoo-in to start there for West Brom.

Ayew is someone who Bilic rates “very highly” having dubbed him a “game-changer” during their time at the Irons, and that theme has continued into this season after newly-appointed Sheffield Wednesday boss Tony Pulis was left in awe at his impact last week.

Former Baggies starlet Yan Dhanda is also a huge fan, speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Andre is a goalscorer. He scores goals, and if you put the ball in the box nine times out of 10 Andre is going to be in the right position and he is going to score.”

Experienced, prolific and creative – you can’t help but feel for Albion as they could’ve done with a player of this calibre right now. Sporting director Luke Dowling clearly made a massive mistake in not signing the tricky wide man this summer.

Perhaps they ought to revisit the deal in January to try and salvage their place in the English top-flight.

AND in other news, West Brom can strike a killer blow to their relegation rivals this January…
