Prestes a superar Aranha no Santos, Vanderlei reencontra antecessor com invencibilidade no Pacaembu

MatériaMais Notícias

Vencer no Pacaembu.

-Difícil explicar (o sucesso no Pacaembu).

Liverpool linked to Otavio

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Porto midfielder Otavio as the search for Gini Wijnaldum’s successor steps up and recent comments by the player’s agent may give The Reds hope of getting a deal done.

What’s the story?

According to a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola last week (as reported by Sport Witness), the Reds were in advanced talks for the 26-year-old after he caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp.

The report claimed that the Merseyside outfit are acting on an “express request” from the German tactician after a string of impressive performances from the creative talent.

And a recent update provided by Otavio’s agent will provide further hope for Klopp that he can secure his man this summer.

“If it’s good for Porto and for Otavio,” he said to A Bola when he was asked if his client could be on the move this summer, indicating that a transfer is a possibility.

Klopp will be buzzing

The Brazilian’s exit clause increased from £34 million to £51.5m at the beginning of July, but there’s a growing belief Porto will allow him to depart for considerably less than that.

A significant discount could even be on the cards for the attacking midfielder, with Porto needing to sell players to improve their poor financial situation. The Dragons are reportedly willing to sell him for a fee they deem “fair”, meaning The Reds’ director of football Michael Edwards could secure another bargain.

Wijnaldum’s decision to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer has left a significant gap in Liverpool’s engine room.

Several big names, such as Renato Sanches and Saul Niguez, have been strongly linked with a move to Anfield as a result, but Otavio now appears to be firmly in the running.

The South American has bagged 19 goals and provided a further 49 assists in 188 appearances for Porto, winning two league titles and a Portuguese Cup along the way.

With the ongoing pandemic continuing to affect clubs’ finances, Otavio could be deemed a realistic option for Liverpool as they aim to replace Wijnaldum’s passing ability in the middle of the park.

The Merseyside outfit may have to sell some fringe players before they can further bolster their ranks this summer, but news that Otavio could be available will surely leave Klopp buzzing given it’s reportedly him who is keen for a deal to be completed.

And, in other news…Imagine him & Thiago: Edwards could get LFC rocking again by signing £60m “conductor”

Kennedy doesn’t expect problems regarding Newcastle’s takeover

Newcastle United fans have had to put up with false dawns, fake ‘in the know’ accounts and people claiming it will never happen but, journalist for the Shields Gazette, Liam Kennedy, can’t see any problems arising in the club’s potential takeover.

The common phrase used when talking about the problems occurring in the Newcastle takeover is ‘red flags’ with the buyers claiming there were never any of those, thus the confusion as to why it never got passed through.

After the consortium refused arbitration during the takeover process, Mike Ashley stepped in personally to keep it alive and decide to take on the league himself with his own assembled legal team to try and get it pushed through.

After over 12 months of being led along the takeover trail, it would be a massive blow for fans, club and owner if PCP Capital partners didn’t complete the takeover, but Kennedy can’t see that being the case with no new problems expected to arise as he spoke to Football FanCast about the takeover:

“There isn’t going to be any more issues, in my understanding, with the money and the people involved as they still want to buy the football club.”

Amanda Staveley is famously leading the takeover bid and after it collapsed last year, she called on fans to make their voices heard against the Premier League who have led people on and made it difficult for the consortium to buy the club.

After years of slumping it out at the foot of the Premier League table and battling relegation, Newcastle fans would be delighted to see their club finish comfortably mid-table and have a relatively simple season after spending a decent amount of money on the squad and academy.

Somerset Under 15 Girls lose out to Kent

Somerset Under 15 Girl’s lost their ECB League match against Kent at King Edwards School in Bath recently.Somerset won the toss and batting first scored 82 from their 30 overs, with Liz Tilley top scoring with 38.In reply Kent got off to a good start and had scored 63 before Somerset skipper Annie Riccio took an exciting catch to dismiss Charlotte Ridout off the bowling of Katherine Feather for 37.There was second wicket for Katherine but it wasn’t enough to prevent Kent from eventually reaching their target for the loss of 3 wickets.Somerset now play Essex at Wadham Hall at Walthamstow in the next round of the competition.

Loughborough double victory should seal First Class cricket fortunes

Loughborough University Cricket Team are knocking on door of the ECB making the case for First Class status. They are now crowned the top University Centre of Excellence (UCCE) side for the second year running and have also won the National BUSA title for the third time."We are coming up with the goods, both in terms of player development and competitive results. I think the problem is that we are compromising the recognition of our players by not being given First Class status, when inferior sides have got it. If someone like Jimmy Adams, the young Hampshire player, scores 100 in each innings against a full Kent team, it is worth recording as first class," said Guy Jackson, Loughborough’s Director of Cricket.Jackson believes that if universities are to retain First Class status, the system should be revised to be more democratic, "The status should be given to the best three to reflect first class performances. This would bring harder competition to into the UCCE Championship" commented Jackson.Graham Dilley, Loughborough Coach and England Assistant Coach added,"Cricket at Loughborough is in many ways a significant ECB success story. It would be fitting to be awarded First Class status as this would raise the profile and prospects of our top players."Loughborough have this year won both the BUSA One-Day Premiership and the ECB Two-Day UCCE Championship, repeating their 2001 double. The university’s other cricket sides have been doing equally well. In another BUSA championship, Loughborough’s 2nd XI won the 1st team competition for non-academy sides. The university’s elite young cricketers won the ECB’s two day competition for it’s UCCE’s on 22-23 June, with a victory over Oxford University in the final match of that series. Early on they were 40 for 3, but managed to recover through solid mid-order contributions from first year PE student Mark Nash (93) and Northants’ Rob White (65), the team set a total of 319-8 declared. They eventually claimed victory and secured the championship with 6 overs to spare, as Oxford were bowled out for 296.On Tuesday 18 June Loughborough Students retained the National BUSA Premiership title with a thrilling last ball win against Durham. It was their third successive finals victory against Durham at the Fenner’s Ground in Cambridge. Defending a potentially inadequate total of 190 in a rain-reduced match of 44 overs, Loughborough tore through Durham to leave them on 9 for 3 in their reply, then survived a spirited fight-back to win off the last ball as Durham fell two runs short. Loughborough’s captain, the Northants contracted player Mark Powell, was named the Halifax `man of the match’ for his leadership, top score and tight bowling. The Loughborough Academy players now move into their last few matches before the students return to their County Clubs well prepared for the remainder of the season, and with exams completed. Today they take on Hampshire’s 1st XI at the new `Rosebowl’ ground at Southampton.ECB Challenge Match at LordsThe showpiece of top-level university cricket will take place at Lords, 2 July, when Loughborough (ECB Championship winners) take on Oxford University, this year’s ECB Championship runners-up, in what is a new style and more competitive `Varsity Match’.

Miller could be Southampton’s next Redmond

Southampton are reportedly one of the Premier League sides interested in signing Birmingham City striker Amari Miller this summer and the 18-year-old could prove to be the next Nathan Redmond in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

What’s the word?

According to Birmingham Live reporter Brian Dick, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign the teenager this summer, with Leeds United and Everton also credited with an interest.

The 18-year-old forward made several promising cameo appearances for Lee Bowyer’s side towards the end of the Championship campaign but his contract at St Andrew’s is set to expire this summer and whilst the Blues have offered him a deal, any Premier League club could sign him for a minimal tribunal fee this summer.

Southampton’s next Redmond?

Although Miller is very early in his career, Birmingham clearly have a lot of belief in his ability as he featured five times in the Championship last season, despite Bowyer’s side being embroiled in a relegation battle for much of the season.

Bowyer has already praised his “fearless” approach to playing in the Championship and the St Andrew’s outfit will surely be desperate to keep hold of him this summer, but a move to Southampton where young players are always given a chance may well appeal to Miller.

If he were to make the move to St Mary’s ahead of next season, he could prove to be the next Redmond at the South Coast club.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-southampton-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Southampton transfer rumours and news!”]

Like Miller, Redmond started his career at Birmingham City before joining Norwich City in 2013, where he would make 123 appearances before completing a switch to Southampton in the summer of 2016.

He has since gone on to make 199 appearances for the Saints, contributing 27 goals and 21 assists, so if Miller could replicate the former England international, then he would surely prove to be a solid addition at St Mary’s.

Like Redmond, Miller can also feature on either flank and could perhaps be re-trained to feature as a striker in Hasenhuttl’s 4-2-2-2 setup in the future.

Considering Miller won’t cost much at all, it would be well worth the risk for Martin Semmens to try and bring him to St Mary’s this summer, although it appears as if he will face stiff competition from other Premier League sides.

Given Hasenhuttl has been very effusive in his praise of Saints’ young talents, and has already done well in bringing through the likes of Nathan Tella, Miller could be the latest crown jewel for the St Mary’s boss.

An exciting young winger who’s “fearless” appears to be the ideal fit for someone to learn his trade under Hasenhuttl, and it’s exactly why the Saints boss would surely love to sign him.

And, in other news… Reed disaster: Saints missed out on “unbelievable” beast with more goals than Ings

West Ham must axe Lanzini this summer

West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini remains a wanted man this summer.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are considering a move for the 28-year-old ahead of the upcoming window as Jorge Sampaoli looks to bolster his options in the engine room.

The Argentine was well travelled before this six-year stint in East London, featuring for teams like River Plate, Fluminense and Al-Jazeera but his time is surely coming towards the end at the London Stadium.

He has slipped down the pecking order under David Moyes – for instance, this campaign, he has played just 560 minutes in the Premier League.

Truth be told, the attacking maestro just has not been the same since a serious ACL injury before the 2018 World Cup and it has clearly hindered his performances on the pitch for the Hammers.

So if Marseille were to come forward with a bid for the £9m-rated star, then Moyes and the club’s hierarchy must take what they can for him.

Capped five times by his national side, Lanzini has arguably been stealing a living from the East London club. His minutes on the pitch simply do not justify his reported £75k-per-week wages, a salary that could go towards a vital new signing.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-latest-west-ham-news-irons-transfer-gossip-rumours-more-moyes-striker-gsb” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and more!”]

In fact, the 5 foot 6 dynamo – who can play wide and through the middle – is earning more than the bulk of Moyes’ current squad, including regular and star performers such as Tomas Soucek (£45k-per-week), Declan Rice (£55k-per-week) and Michail Antonio (£70k-per-week).

With the Hammers competing in the Europa League next season, the Scot needs strength in depth right across the pitch. Aside from the permanent arrival of Jesse Lingard, a new striker to lessen the burden on the injury-prone Antonio will be top priority.

But with the prospect of the side facing a 50-plus game campaign, Moyes could also so with central defensive, midfield and full-back additions, and even perhaps a new goalkeeper, too.

Offloading someone who has been struggling to justify his place in the team would certainly be a nice boost to the transfer kitty.

Lanzini, in recent times, has been described as “completely ineffective” by Dave Walker and “too anonymous at times,” by Roshane Thomas, so it’s evident that even when he’s given a chance that he’s not good enough.

The Hammers are on the rise, so there’s no time to pay sentiments to a player like Lanzini. Moyes must be ruthless and offload him should any bid come in this summer.

His time is surely up in the claret and blue.

AND in other news, Moyes could find West Ham’s next Defoe in 18 y/o “special talent” with “undoubted potential”…
