Wolves: Zaragoza refusing to give up on Rafa Mir

Spanish second division side Zaragoza are reportedly determined to agree a deal for Wolves’ Rafa Mir despite their mission thus far proving entirely unsuccessful.

According to El Periódico de Aragón, Zaragoza are refusing to give up on a potential deal for the 22-year-old. It comes after they had previously reported a deal was proving troublesome.

They report Wolves are keen to get the deal finalised sooner rather than later, but are somewhat put off by Zaragoza’s second division status.

However, they state the player himself is keen on a move after assurances of a key role at the focal point of the attack.

The stumbling block appears to be the wages, which appear too substantial at this moment in time. El Periódico de Aragón report Mir to be on £20,000-a-week, a fee that would likely have to be partially subsidised by Wolves.

Regardless of the current issues at hand, Zaragoza are reportedly unwilling to yield just yet.

Rafa Mir certainly won’t be a departure that will lower the morales of many Wolves fans out there. In fact, he hasn’t yet made a single Premier League appearance for the club (per Premierleague.com). However, he appears to be an exciting prospect for the future, meaning a loan-move could be entirely beneficial.

Mir spent last season on-loan, again in Spain’s second division with Las Palmas. The Spaniard scored seven goals and provided a single assist in 30 league games (per international career to date, which has seen him score five in ten U21 appearances. He was also part of the Spain squad that recently won the U21 European Championships, coming off the bench twice.

With the likes of Dani Ceballos and Pablo Fornals still playing their football at U21 level, this is certainly impressive for the recently turned 22-year-old.

It’s understandable why Wolves are reportedly apprehensive of their starlet spending another season in a lower quality division, but he will struggle to compete with the likes of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez for a place in the starting eleven. It therefore makes sense for a loan-deal to be completed as soon as possible.

Wolves fans, do you think Mir could have a future at the club? Should Wolves hold out for a better offer? Let us know!

Bournemouth: Eddie Howe would have to be crazy to go near Joe Hart

Bournemouth seem to be in the market for a new goalkeeper and, after last season, it is no surprise.

Simply put, Asmir Begovic was not good enough for the Cherries. Between the sticks, he made mistake after mistake, with five of them leading to the opposition scoring in the Premier League.

The south coast club could now look to sign Burnley’s Joe Hart, with the Sun reporting that Eddie Howe sees him as an alternative to Jack Butland.

With plenty of experience at the highest level, Howe’s thinking is not completely unfathomable here. But even so, he would still have to be pretty crazy to go anywhere near Hart this summer.

The 32-year-old has been on the decline for some time now and, like Begovic, he can also be prone to making very silly and costly mistakes.

For example, back in the 2017/18 Premier League season, Hart made four errors leading to goals for West Ham, with only Begovic once again (5), Hugo Lloris (5) and Petr Cech (6) having made more.

It must be said that in the season that has just gone by, Hart managed to reduce that number down to zero. The defensive protection of James Tarkowski and Ben Mee, though, arguably played a part in that.

Will the former Manchester City man get that sort of shielding at the Vitality Stadium? Probably not with Bournemouth being a much more adventurous side under Howe.

Of course, you never quite know what kind of Hart is going to turn up after witnessing his inconsistent past couple of seasons, so avoiding a move for him would be sensible.

When you consider all of that, the Cherries would be better off looking elsewhere this summer.

Bournemouth fans, would Hart be an upgrade on Begovic? Let us know your thoughts by commenting below.

Harper must be kept at West Brom amid play-off omission

[ad_pod ]

According to The Express & Star, Rekeem Harper has been offered a new deal by West Brom with discussions being on and off since January.

What’s the word?

Harper is one of the best talents to come through Albion’s academy in recent years but the club could be in danger of losing him for absolutely nothing over the summer.

The 6 ft midfielder has a contract with the Baggies until the end of June but it doesn’t appear as though they’re any closer to a breakthrough over a new deal.

That’s per The Express & Star who have claimed the 19-year-old has been offered a contract in discussions that have been held with the player’s representatives since the beginning of the year.

In recent weeks, Harper has attracted the interest of Tottenham and Norwich according to The Sun on Sunday (3rd May, page 68) and The Sun (10 May, page 57).

Harper needs to stick around

West Brom’s energetic youngster has played in 22 matches across all competitions this term, finding himself a bit-part of the squad predominantly under Darren Moore. However, he’s featured more regularly under Jimmy Shan.

Despite that, he was left on the bench against Aston Villa last Saturday which was somewhat of a surprise given how regularly he’s started in recent months.

Shan claimed that was down to personnel and selection, per quotes in The Express & Star. However, his absence was particularly noticeable, suggesting West Brom need to do all they can to keep him at the club next season.

That, of course, could be out of their hands, particularly if he continues to swat away offers. Considering the Baggies missing a dynamic man in the middle of the park against Villa, they should be doing all they can to get him to agree to terms.

West Brom’s midfield has been an area of strength but it is an ageing part of the team, especially with the likes of Jake Livermore and Chris Brunt. As a result, the Baggies need to ensure they’re bringing through players like Sam Field and Harper.

The latter has had troubles with attitude towards the back end of the campaign but they must now forget about that and keep him around.

Losing Leroy Sane Bayern Munich would be a disaster

Having recently waved an emotional goodbye to club legends Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich are in the market for a new winger and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane has emerged as a surprise target.

Reports from German news outlet Bild suggest that Bayern president Uli Hoeness is incredibly keen on bringing the lightning-quick forward back to the Bundesliga, where he departed in 2016.

The report goes on to confirm a few details we are already aware of, including the fact that Pep Guardiola, former boss at the interested club, has given the go-ahead for a Sane exit, with the winger surprisingly no longer a preferred choice in the starting line-up – despite claiming 10 Premier League goals and 11 Premier League assists this term.

Despite contract negations between City and Sane hitting a dead-end, it is expected that the Sky Blues will slap a mammoth €100mÂprice-tag on him this summer, which could be a major sticking point as Hoeness has recently stated that Bayern would not be willing to drop more than €80million on any player this summer: “We’re not playing Monopoly here. We’re a soccer club. We have reached a limit with €80 million, and I don’t think that we’ll exceed it in further transfers.â€

A fact Duncan Castles has confirmed on Twitter…

However, we don’t believe for one minute that the Bavarian giants, ranked as one of the wealthiest clubs in world football, would be prepared to bow out of the chase that easily, especially with the market heading in the ludicrous direction that it is. Give it a few more years and a Sane deal worth 100m will seem like pennies.

With that being said, to lose Sane at this stage in his development, when there is evidentlyÂso much more to come from him – which is quite frankly frightening – would be a travesty of the highest order. This lad is going to be one of the best, we all know it. Heck, Pep Guardiola probably even knows it.

We’d argue that Manchester City, for all their current depth, scouting expertise and a seemingly endless pot of money will still almost certainly struggle to identify and sign a player of the German’s stature and ability for a considerable amount time; all while watching their disregarded star turn into a world beater. Sad times.

Manchester City fans, how sad would you be to see Sane go? Is this a demonstration of just how strong your current squad is or is it a case of negligence on Guardiola’s part to let Sane slip? Join the discussion by commenting below…

He is unreal: Liverpool fans want club to move for Nicolas Pepe

[ad_pod ]

Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed that Nicolas Pepe looks likely to leave the French club in this summer’s transfer window.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a fine season, managing 20 goals and 14 assists in 35 appearances for his Ligue 1 side in all competitions. There will likely be widespread interest in the attacker this summer.

The Liverpool fans have been on social media commenting on the Ivory Coast international.

And a number have called on the club to bring 6 ft Pepe to Anfield ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign.

The Reds would surely face competition from a number of clubs if they decided to make a bid, especially when considering that Pepe has had an outrageously good season for Lille.

The other key question is where Pepe would fit in at Anfield, facing competition for a role in the front three from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

But Liverpool fans are certainly keen on a summer swoop – a selection of the Twitter reaction from Reds supporters can be seen below:

Ref in Focus: Graham Scott record indicates it will be happy Saturday for Southampton

[ad_pod ]

Southampton will be looking to reach the magic 40-point mark and secure their spot in the Premier League next season when they host Bournemouth at St Mary’s on Saturday, and the appointment of Graham Scott as referee for the clash is brilliant news for the hosts given his record this season.

Saints’ home form certainly hasn’t been as strong as it could have been – especially against the sides around them as shown by the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff earlier in 2019 – this term, but they have also recorded wins over the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on the south coast since Ralph Hasenhuttl took charge in December.

They lie six points above the 18th-placed Bluebirds with three matches of the campaign remaining, although the Welsh club would need seven points to overtake them given their significantly inferior goal difference.

The fact that Scott is officiating in the south coast shootout is the best news that Southampton and their Austrian manager could have hoped for, given his remarkable statistics in the Premier League during the current campaign.

The 51-year-old has been the man in the middle for 16 matches this season, with 81.3% of those ending in three points for the hosts, as per WhoScored.

When you consider that he is only beaten by Andy Madley, who has refereed just the two fixtures, with the next best after him being Anthony Taylor on 69%, it is quite an eye-catching number.

Saints will certainly be hoping to put things to bed this weekend with a trip to West Ham United and the visit of already-relegated Huddersfield Town to come, so they can go into those two fixtures with the pressure off.

What better way to celebrate survival than in front of your own fans at a packed out stadium – the omens certainly look to be on their side for that to be the case against the Cherries given Scott’s impressive record.
