Wolves: Neto’s market value has sky rocketed

Bad news struck Wolves back in August when it was reported that Pedro Neto suffered an unfortunate setback in his recovery from injury.

Consequently, it will now see him potentially return to action in February after fracturing his knee cap back in April during Wolves’ 1-0 win at Fulham in the Premier League.

Given how Wolves have only managed to score five goals in their opening seven Premier League games of the season, winning three and losing four, it’s safe to say Bruno Lage’s side could do with Neto’s attacking prowess in their squad at the moment.

Since joining the Midlands club back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Italian club Lazio for a fee of £16.11m, the winger has managed to score ten goals and provide 11 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions. Five of his goals and six of his assists came last season, demonstrating just how important he was for the team.

This has also been proved by the rise in his overall market value.

In December 2019, only a few months after joining the club, Neto’s market value according to Transfermarkt was listed at just £6.3m. Whereas now it’s taken a massive jump to £31.5m, showing an increase in total of £25.2m in under two years, which is mightily impressive.

This shows just how much of an impressive signing he’s been for Wolves and what a great fit he’s been in their squad alongside other attacking players like Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez.

Moving forward, everyone at Wolves will undoubtedly be hoping that the 21-year-old winger, who is currently earning a weekly wage of £50k-per-week according to Spotrac, will not suffer any further setbacks in his recovery. After an inconsistent start to the campaign, they need him back out on the pitch as soon as he can with no possibility of any further damage to his knee as a result.

In our view, given his relatively young age, if Neto can full recover from his injury and regain the attacking power he showed last season, we see no reason why his market value couldn’t go up even further. He is a simply wonderful player.

Predicted Spurs XI vs Vitesse

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to extend their lead at the top of Group G in the UEFA Conference League later this evening.

Nuno Santo will take a much-changed squad to the Netherlands to face Vitesse and they head into kickoff on the back of three straight wins in all competitions, including a 5-1 whitewash against NS Mura in this very competition last time out.

Spurs defeated Newcastle United on Sunday to go fifth in the Premier League standings but none of the starting XI are expected to feature today.

But what sort of lineup could the Portuguese head coach select? Here’s what we are predicting…

As already mentioned, there could be a whole new 11 starting in Holland.

Between the sticks, club captain Hugo Lloris is replaced by Pierluigi Gollini, who has started all four of their matches in this tournament, whilst there could be a new back four of Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga.

They come in for first-choice quartet of Sergio Reguilon, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero and Japhet Tanganga. The latter of which gets the nod over Matt Doherty, despite the Northern Irishman featuring regularly in this competition as he misses out through injury, along with Ryan Sessegnon.

Giovani Lo Celso was one player who did not see any minutes on the pitch at St James’ Park, so he is likely to come in to partner Harry Winks, with Dele Alli also coming back into the starting XI, likely as captain, despite being snubbed in their last two league outings.

Nuno has already confirmed that Steven Bergwijn will be back after injury, so he lines up on the right over Lucas Moura, as 20-year-old “big talent” Bryan Gil takes the place of Heung-min Son on the other flank.

Teenage starlet Dane Scarlett is in line for an opportunity as the only other centre-forward available to the manager. His involvement means Harry Kane is rested ahead of the weekend.

The likes of Dilan Markanday, Nile John, Jack Clarke and Harvey White could be involved from the bench.

AND in other news, Paratici could fix Nuno’s biggest problem with Spurs swoop for £31.5m-rated “animal”…

Newcastle injury news on Willock

An injury expert has now revealed when he expects Joe Willock to return to playing for Newcastle United again.

The Lowdown: Carrying a knock

As quoted by The Shields Gazette, Steve Bruce revealed that Willock had suffered a ‘knock to his hip’ after being forced off early in their 2-1 loss away at Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The former Arsenal ace was sent for a scan during the international break to see what damage had been done.

The Latest: Back for Tottenham?

Speaking to Football Insider, Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis, has now revealed that the extent of Willock’s injury should not be too serious, and even claimed that he could be ready to play in the North East club’s next game, against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in the top flight on Sunday 17th October:

“Fingers crossed, this will not be very serious.

“It was just the impact on the point of that hip. It can be very, very painful with the bruising around there.

“That can restrict mobility and movement, which we saw when he was unable to continue against Wolves.

“But I’m pretty confident those scans will come back as nothing too serious.

“In the next few days, he will loosen up. Hopefully, we will see him back on the training pitches and ready in time for game week eight.”

The Verdict: Relief

It will certainly be a relief to hear that Willock seemingly has a good chance of coming back to play against Spurs.

Given his Arsenal background, he would be right up for the match, and his 1.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League so far this season is only bettered by Allan Saint-Maximin out of his teammates, showing how vital he is in getting the Tyneside outfit up the pitch.

Nonetheless, Bruce will no doubt be hoping and praying that his scan does not come back too serious.

Inzamam blasts Malik over unfair treatment of seniors

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain has criticized Shoaib Malik for not treating senior players with respect and that some of them had complained to Inzamam about Malik’s behaviour

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, has criticised the current leader Shoaib Malik for not treating senior players with respect and claimed some of them complained to him about Malik’s behaviour. “He has not been fair with senior players and has let them down on several occasions,” Inzamam told Pakistan channel . “He has not been open and honest with them and they have conveyed their unhappiness to me. It is very unfortunate the way Malik has handled his responsibilities as a captain and relations with senior players who need to be treated with respect.”Inzmam also questioned Malik’s leadership. “He may be an organised and intelligent cricketer but I can’t say the same thing about his captaincy.”Mushtaq Ahmed, the former legspinner, on the same note, said captaincy was about man-management more then anything else. “Any captain to be successful must be very good at man management that is what I have seen from the best captains I have played under. A captain needs to support the players in trying circumstances,” he said. This is not the first time that Malik’s captaincy has come under fire. Inzamam had earlier called for a more experienced captain or coach at the helm. A sentiment shared by Wasim Akram, another former Pakistan captain, who believed that Malik needed to be more strong in selection affairs.Pakistan recently lost the T20 Canada final against Sri Lanka under Malik’s captaincy. They also failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup held in Karachi featuring six teams. Defeats in the two Test series, first against South Africa at home, and then in India, also came during his reign. However, they won a couple of bilateral series involving Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and the Kitply Cup, a tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh featuring the hosts and India.Malik’s captaincy is due to be reviewed by PCB later this month as his current term ends on December 31.

Agent of van de Beek spoke to EFC

The agent of Donny van de Beek has revealed that he was in talks with Everton in regards to a move during the transfer window, but a switch was vetoed by Manchester United.

The Lowdown: Business done on final day

On the final day of the transfer window, the Toffees completed the signing of Salomon Rondon from Dalian Professional.

However, it seems that they also were interested in capturing the services of the £27m-valued Netherlands international (Transfermarkt) from the Red Devils.

The Latest: Van de Beek speaks to Toffees

Speaking to Ziggo Sport (via The Daily Express), Van de Beek’s representative Guido Albers revealed talks with the Merseyside club. He said:

“We took the initiative to find a club and our search ended up at Everton. We opened talks with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri.

“On Monday night [before deadline day] we received a call from Solskjær and the club who told us that a transfer was out of the question and that he had to report himself to training the next morning.

“The perspective now is that we stated that Donny is not a Carabao Cup player, or FA Cup player, or to play only in European games.”

The Verdict: Crying shame

Although he made the move to Old Trafford from Ajax in September 2020 for a fee of £35m (BBC), Van de Beek has had to make do with a bit-part role at the club. He managed just 36 appearances in all competitions last season, the majority of which came from the bench, and he has yet to feature for a single minute in the current campaign (Transfermarkt).

He has often impressed whenever he has featured, though, with Owen Hargreaves calling him “close to perfect” after a match in the Champions League against Istanbul Basaksehir last autumn.

At Everton, you would have thought he would be close to a guaranteed starter under Rafael Benitez. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may eventually be ready to incorporate the midfielder into his plans, it feels like a transfer would have been the 24-year-old’s best chances of playing regularly, and he would have brought plenty of quality to Goodison Park judging by Hargreaves’ glowing praise.

In other news, Everton also wanted to sign this England international during the transfer window.
