Journalist: Newcastle now plotting £10m move for towering 20 y/o target man

Newcastle United are interested in signing a towering 20-year-old striker in a potential £10m deal, according to an update from journalist Alan Nixon.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies continue to be linked with some stellar names in the summer transfer window, one of which is believed to be Chelsea star Noni Madueke. The winger is seen as an upgrade on both Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy on the right flank, in what looks like a key position to focus on for Eddie Howe.

Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier isn't getting any younger and will need to be replaced at right-back sooner rather than later, and Nottingham Forest ace Neco Williams is reportedly seen as an option to move to St James' Park this summer. His current club are desperate to keep hold of him, however, so it may not be easy for them to strike a deal.

Centre-back also remains an important area of focus for Newcastle in the next few weeks, as their options there currently feel limited and AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw remains a target. In fact, the Magpies are said to be preparing a fresh offer for the 22-year-old's services, seeing him as a strong addition who could come in and be a long-term option alongside Sven Botman.

Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah is also seen as a possibility at the heart of Howe's defence, with a summer exit from Stamford Bridge feeling on the cards, and the fact that he can also play at right-back could be looked at as another reason to acquire his signature ahead of next season.

Newcastle plotting £10m move for 20 y/o striker

According to a new claim from Nixon on Patreon [via Give Me Sport], Newcastle are keen on signing Sheffield United striker William Osula this summer. The Magpies could have to pay as much as £10m for his services, however, with the Blades not wanting the youngster to leave on the cheap. It is seen as a surprising potential piece of business, but one that could be completed in the near future.

Osula isn't exactly the huge name that many Newcastle supporters will want to see linked with bolstering their attack, but it could be that new sporting director Paul Mitchell sees him as a great long-term option.

The youngster has made 21 appearances in the Premier League already, and while he has failed to both score and assist in that time, the fact that he has been trusted to play in the world's most famous division at such a young age suggests he has plenty of talent and potential.

6 foot 4 Osula has won six caps for Denmark's Under-21s, netting once in that time, outlining his pedigree as a young international footballer, and he has been hailed as a "serious player" by ITV Football in the past.

The young Dane wouldn't be coming in as an immediate starter, but long-term planning is essential, and he could end up maturing into a fantastic option for Newcastle over time.

'Surprised' Steven Smith wins Allan Border Medal for third time

Smith was also named ODI player of the year, Pat Cummins was the Test player and Ashton Agar took the T20I honour

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Feb-2021Steven Smith has won the Allan Border Medal for the third time, also taking the ODI awarded, while Pat Cummins was named Test player of the year and Ashton Agar earned the T20I honour at the Cricket Australia annual awards.Smith (126 votes) finished ahead of Cummins (114) and Aaron Finch (97) for the top honour, joining David Warner as a three-time winner behind the leaders Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke. In a season disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the voting period took in Australia’s away series against India and South Africa early last year, the aborted ODIs against New Zealand at home, the white-ball tour of England, and the home season against India. The voting was conducted on a 3-2-1 basis for every match under consideration with all players voting along with media representatives and umpires.Across the formats Smith scored 1098 runs with four centuries, three of them coming in ODIs – including the back-to-back 62-ball tons against India at the SCG – along with his century in the Sydney Test. Despite missing the ODIs against England due to concussion he finished as Australia’s second-highest run-scorer in the voting period behind captain Finch.”I was a bit surprised, I didn’t feel I had the biggest Test summer, which I think holds the most votes,” he said. “I think my one-day cricket was pretty good last year, so a lot of votes there, but it’s obviously an honour to win this for the third time.Steven Smith made back-to-back 62-ball hundreds against India•Getty Images”I thought I played some good [one-day] cricket and I thought our group were playing some good cricket as well. We beat England in England, I didn’t play any part in that series either, so that was nice. Back here against India as well I thought we played some really good cricket so we’re progressing nicely and I felt as though I had a good impact this year, which was pleasing and hopefully I can continue to do so.”With just the four Tests under consideration this year, it was little surprise that Cummins took out that title after claiming 21 wickets at 20.04 against India. He finished comfortably ahead of Josh Hazlewood and Marnus Labuschagne. In T20Is, left-arm spinner Agar finished ahead of Finch and David Warner despite missing the series against India due to a calf injury after taking 13 wickets at 12.46 and an economy rate of 6.75. That included a hat-trick against South Africa as part of a haul of 5 for 24.Josh Lalor, the Melbourne Renegades pace bowler, took out the community impact award for his work on Reflect Forward, a joint movement between racism education company One Love Australia and the Australian sports industry. The award recognises players who have made a positive contribution to the broader community through extraordinary service to the public such as the support of a charity, social cause or community event.

England mull third spin option with Moeen Ali ruled out of first Test

Mason Crane, Matt Parkinson and Amar Virdi are with the squad as reserves

Matt Roller10-Jan-2021England will consider adding one of their three reserve spinners to their main squad ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka on January 14, after head coach Chris Silverwood ruled Moeen Ali out of contention.Ali has been self-isolating after returning a positive Covid-19 test on arrival in Sri Lanka, with his quarantine period ending on January 13, the day before the first Test. As a result, England may look to one of the three spin bowlers who travelled with the squad as reserves – Mason Crane, Matt Parkinson and Amar Virdi – to keep their options open. Parkinson and Virdi are both uncapped, while Crane’s only Test came in the Sydney dead-rubber at the end of the 2017-18 Ashes.Silverwood expects to get a first look at the pitch at Galle – where both Tests will be played – when England train on Monday afternoon. Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur told the last week that he is anticipating “typical Sri Lankan conditions”, and if the surface looks particularly spin-friendly, England may look to field three frontline spinners as they did in their 3-0 series win in 2018.Related

“They’re in the group, they’re here, so they’re available,” Silverwood said. “We’ll have a look tomorrow, and then we’ll make a decision on where we go. We travel with such a large group now, so should any eventuality come up then we’ve got it covered.”We’ve got [Dom] Bess and [Jack] Leach in the front line and Rooty [Joe Root] can be effective as a spinner, but we’ve not seen the pitch down in Galle yet. We’ll see that tomorrow and conversations will go from there. We can play plenty of spin if required to.”Silverwood also confirmed that Ali was unavailable for selection in the first Test. Silverwood said that Ali was “feeling OK in himself from a physical point of view,” but his involvement in the second Test of the series is in doubt, given he will have spent two weeks in hotel-room isolation before he is able to train, and the short turnaround between Tests.

“If it’s not swinging, you can try and use the pace to try and force an issue. Having that up your sleeve when you are in a Test match is always a very nice thing to have for a captain – to be able to turn to somebody that can genuinely bowl fast”Silverwood hinted that England may pick either Olly Stone or Mark Wood

Whether England choose a third spinner or not, there will be a significant burden placed on Bess and Leach throughout the next two months, with a four-match series in India following immediately after the Sri Lanka tour. Bess played all six home Tests last summer, taking eight wickets at 55.50, but Leach has managed only two first-class appearances in the last 12 months after spending most of the home season on the sidelines in the England bubble.”He’s looked good on tour so far,” Silverwood said. “He’s worked hard at home before we came out here and he’s prepped very well. When we were in South Africa, the red-ball squad were training hard in the marquee at Loughborough. It’s just a case of making sure he feels confident on Thursday in that final XI and that he goes out and performs.”I imagine there’s going to be a few nerves around because he hasn’t played for a while but he won’t be the only one – the team in general hasn’t played a Test match for a long time. He’ll be fine. [We’ll] get him into the attack and let him go.”Sam Curran could get the nod with Chris Woakes yet to train•ECBMeanwhile, Silverwood hinted that Sam Curran could be included in the side for the first Test, and that England are likely to avoid pairing James Anderson with Stuart Broad as they place emphasis on “variety” in their attack. If England opt to play two frontline spinners, Curran’s main rival for the No. 7 spot will be Chris Woakes, who re-joined the squad on Saturday after self-isolation as a close contact of Ali’s. With Jofra Archer rested for this series, England may instead turn to Olly Stone or Mark Wood, if they decide that they need a 90mph/145kph bowler in their XI.”The timelines are tight for Chris,” Silverwood said. “He will train tomorrow [Monday] and that will be his first training session, really. We’ve got to be realistic in our expectations that people won’t play in every Test match and we’ll be resting and rotating players and looking after them.”Having the option of that extra pace in your armoury so that if it is flat, you have something to go to. If it’s not swinging, you can try and use the pace to try and force an issue. Having that up your sleeve when you are in a Test match is always a very nice thing to have for a captain – to be able to turn to somebody that can genuinely bowl fast.”You’re looking at who can swing it, who can contain, left-arm, right-arm. You want different options in there so that at any given point, the captain… has as many options up his sleeve [as possible]. Not only have we got a wealth of experience in Jimmy and Broady, we have people who do different things as well.”

Zimbabwe delegation to inspect biosecurity arrangements ahead of Pakistan tour

Zimbabwe Cricket will send a five-person delegation to Pakistan to assess the arrangements for the bio-secure bubble ahead of their six-match limited-overs series in the country. The PCB is currently staging the six-team National T20 Cup in the country in biosecure bubbles. The first leg of matches is currently on in Multan, where the ODI leg of the Zimbabwe series will be played, and the remaining games will be in Rawalpindi, the venue for the T20Is. The National T20 Cup is expected to serve as an example for the Zimbabwean delegation. Lahore, meanwhile, is hosting the National T20 Cup for the second XIs, while the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, with both the first XIs and second XIs, will be held entirely in Karachi across six venues from this month.Comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is, the tour is scheduled to begin on October 30 in Multan with the ODIs, which are a part of the World Cup Super League. Zimbabwe will carry a 32-member squad to cater to both the formats as well as for the intra-squad warm-up matches. This will be Zimbabwe’s first tour of Pakistan after 2015, when they became the first Full-Member nation to visit the country after the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009. On that occasion, each of the touring Zimbabwe cricketers was paid US$ 12,500 by the PCB to make the visit, a practice the PCB continued till 2018 in a bid to get international cricket going in Pakistan again. With the situation having changed significantly in recent years, there is no financial inducement for the Zimbabweans to visit this time, five-and-some years on from that historic visit. The delegation, comprising two health officers, one security in-charge, and two ZC executives are expected to land in Islamabad on October 10. Their official inter-city travel will begin after they return two negative tests within 48 hours of arrival in Pakistan’s national capital. Once given the go-ahead, they will begin their inspection in Rawalpindi during the National T20 Cup, followed by a visit to Multan. The Zimbabwe squad will also undergo two Covid-19 tests within a space of 48 hours: one in Harare prior to their departure on October 19, and the other upon arrival in Islamabad on October 20.On September 4, the PCB had announced a full domestic season, with six associations staying and playing in bio-secure bubbles, and opening up the training facilities at its National High Performance Centre in Lahore – all in a strictly controlled bio-secure environments. It has also issued an advisory to restart the sport at the grassroots and recreational levels with adequate safety measures in place. The Covid-19 situation in Pakistan is understood to be getting better, with a sense of normalcy beginning to trickle in since last month. Tourism, stores and malls, restaurants, educational institutions and public transport have resumed operating.

Fee agreed, medical done: Newcastle will sign teenage gem ahead of Man Utd

Newcastle United have seemingly sealed two senior signings for Eddie Howe already this summer and PIF have also beaten Man Utd to a potential star in the making.

Newcastle transfer latest

The Magpies are already making preparations ahead of the 2024/25 season, and with the summer transfer window set to open, Howe has already admitted the club need to be “smart” with their business.

"I think with our current situation and the landscape of the financial position I am not sure we are able to recruit ready made elite players. The players you are trying to get across, I don't think we are in a position to do that and I don't think we were in a position to do that last year.

"So I think we have to be really smart with our recruitment. I think we have to be maybe different to some of the other clubs we are in and around. It is all about the individual player not what bracket they're in. And what they can do for us and how they can take the team or squad forward."

Two permanent signings already appear to be waiting in the wings, though. Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea is set to become a full-time transfer, whereas Newcastle appear to have won the race to sign defender Lloyd Kelly on a free after he left AFC Bournemouth.

After Hall and Kelly, Newcastle appear to be targeting a new goalkeeper, with Burnley’s James Trafford a top target at St James’ Park. A cut-price move could also be on the cards for Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho, and by the looks of things, the club have also won the race to sign a teenage gem ahead of a number of clubs.

Newcastle to sign teenage midfielder ahead of Man Utd

According to NUFC Blog, Newcastle are set to secure the signing of Chukwudi “CJ” Afumuzor from Portsmouth. Aged just 14, Afumuzor will go into Newcastle’s academy and has already completed a medical with the Magpies, with a fee being agreed with Portsmouth last month.

Aston Villa, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion were also keen on Afumuzor, but it is Newcastle who have won the race after presenting the best offer.

Report: Newcastle make move to seal significant off-field appointment

Talks have accelerated over a move to St James’ Park.

ByHenry Jackson Jun 11, 2024

The teenager is described as a ‘combative midfielder who operates best as a No.8’. They add that Afumuzor, who already stands at 5ft 9, ‘has been praised for his engine, ball-winning qualities and ability to drive forward at opposition defences’, scoring more than 20 goals for Portsmouth’s youth teams last season.

He looks set to go into Newcastle’s U15 ranks next year, and who knows, in years to come, we could see him make the first team breakthrough at St James’ Park, with the report adding that Afumuzor will be ‘the first of many Academy signings set to arrive this summer’.

– A gente chega para ajudar. Acredito que com nossa experiência e qualidade, aquilo que podemos produzir, a gente vem para ajudar muito a equipe. Não existe salvador da pátria, porque o futebol é coletivo, onde você depende dos companheiros. A melhor equipe normalmente vence.
