Former Australia women’s player Marie McDonough died on Friday aged 95. McDonough was the second woman from Western Australia to represent Australia in Tests.The former left-arm allrounder, who was born in 1917, featured in the fourth Ashes Test in 1958 on her home ground, but she did not get a chance to bat or bowl in the drawn match. However, she is remembered for her catch at silly mid-on to dismiss Wilkie Wilkinson off Betty Wilson in the first innings.McDonough’s selection for the national team came after a strong domestic performance in the previous season in which she scored a hundred for Subiaco. She represented Western Australia for six years 1951-52 onwards, leading the state in three of those: 1952-53, 1954-55 and 1957-58.She was retrospectively presented her baggy green in 2005 by current Cricket Australia chairman and former WACA life member Wally Edwards.”I was honoured to present Marie with her baggy green at the WACA in 2005,” Edwards said. “She was a great contributor to women’s cricket in Western Australia.”Marie was a role model for young girls and women aspiring to play cricket at the elite level. She was a dedicated cricketer who balanced her passion for the game with her profession as a school teacher.”

Ottis Gibson, the West Indies coach, believes that the quality of his spinners, and the experience gained by some of the key members of the side, will hold the team in good stead against India

West Indies coach Ottis Gibson believes that with the pitches in the Caribbean facilitating spin, the West Indian spinners are better equipped to tackle conditions in India.”We’ve evolved from that pace-pronged attack from the 80s and 90s,” Gibson said. “Our home conditions favour spinners. These pitches are why Sunil Narine, Shane Shillingford, Veerasammy Permaul and Nikita Miller do so well regionally. They are tailored for spin. Now, you think of our spinners when you think of West Indies.”Gibson reiterated that with Sheldon Cotterrell, Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel, they still boasted a healthy stock of fast bowlers. He also indicated that Tino Best was a pacer that India should be wary of given his recent adaptability to varying pitch situations. The coach expressed confidence in his attack and its diversity when questioned about the absences of Ravi Rampaul and Sunil Narine.”Ravi’s just coming off injury so the selectors wanted to give him time to recover. Sunil has done well but Shillingford has been excellent in Tests. Narine has played a lot of cricket and we don’t want to burden players too early with too much responsibility. I know he will bounce back into the Test team and copy his limited-overs form very soon.” Gibson professed that the versatility of his bowling arsenal would be critical come the Test series.He was cautious about the state of Indian pitches but added that his players have been mentally training for these conditions since the impromptu announcement of the tour while gearing for the subsequent New Zealand trip. “This India series wasn’t ideally timed as we were busy prepping for New Zealand,” he said. “We’ve been playing a lot of cricket all over the world in all formats but Test matches is what we’re missing. We have a good team and a nice blend of youngsters and experience now and we must prepare as best we can on these turf pitches in India. We have a good idea about the pitches but must be very mindful still.”Darren Sammy believes that West Indies will be tougher to beat this time around due to the experience they have gained over the last couple of years.”Last Test series here, it was tough,” Sammy said. “We had a lot of youngsters and we were inexperienced. Now, we have six consecutive Test wins (against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe) under our belts and our limited-overs players are some of the best in the ODI and T20 formats. We are a much improved team from the last visit to India.”He pointed to 2013 Wisden Cricketer of the Year, Marlon Samuels, himself and Chris Gayle as players whose knowledge of the Indian cricketing landscape would be essential, given their IPL experience. “Our bowlers are up to the mark and ready for the challenge. [Sheldon] Cotterrell is a great find, and with players such as Kemar Roach and spinners like Shane [Shillingford] and Veerasammy Permaul more mature now, I think we’re ready. Kirk Edwards and Kieran Powell also gave good accounts [of themselves] with the A team recently, so I think we will adapt well to the pitches and conditions.”Sammy also highlighted that Sachin Tendulkar’s 200th Test would be monumental for his stalwart batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. “He’s our talisman in the middle and there’s a reason why some refer to Shiv as ‘The Wall’. His batting will be crucial for us in this series. We are counting on him a lot.”The captain added that despite the occasion, he hoped to dismiss Tendulkar cheaply. “We aren’t giving Sachin a freebie or a hundred but we will be giving him a guard of honour when he walks out to the pitch because he has earned that respect,” Sammy said. “He has been a great ambassador for the game and it’s only fitting. His career is distinguished and it’s testament to him as a professional and his character as a person.”But that’s just one player. We cannot focus on Sachin alone. We have MS Dhoni, (Shikhar) Dhawan and Virat Kohli who are big run-getters. We’ll have to focus on the entire team but we have goals set that we’re looking to achieve and it will be an exciting competition.”

وعلق على تعاقد النصر مع السنغالي ساديو ماني، قائلاً:” أمر رائع تعاقد النصر مع مانى، وستكون فرصة جيدة إذا واجهنا منافسًا يضم لاعبًا مثل ساديو ماني”.

 وعن مراقبة رونالدو، أجاب: “الأقرب لرونالدو سيراقبه، ولم أحدد شخصًا معينًا لمراقبته، وهو الأفضل في العالم  وقادر على تغيير النتيجة، ولكن الطريقة التي سيخوض بها الزمالك هي التي ستحد من خطورته”.

واستطرد مدرب الزمالك: “كل مباراة وكل منافس له ظروفه الخاصة، ومثلما يضم النصر لاعبين مؤثرين، فالزمالك يضم لاعبين مؤثرين، وسيحدد المران الأخير التشكيل الأمثل الذي سيخوض به الفريق المباراة”.

وواصل: “كل شخص له وجهة نظر معينة يرى بها المباراة، ونحن نلعب ونتدرب على أن يكون الاستحواذ معنا، وهناك مباريات صعبة ومن حقي مثل أي مدرب في العالم أن ألعب بالطريقة المناسبة لي وللاعبي الزمالك، ولن أغير الطريقة التي نلعب بها، وسندافع عن الطريقة الهجومية التي نعتمد عليها في المباريات”.

وأضاف: “الكرة للجميع، وكل شخص يدير مشاعره والقلق الذي حدث في مباراة الشباب السعودي يحدث في أي مباراة وسيكون الوضع أكثر هدوءًا في لقاء الغد، عندما وصلت لتدريب الزمالك، لاعبو الفريق كتبوا في ورقة المراكز التي يفضلون اللعب فيها، وعمر جابر كتب أنه يفضل اللعب في مركز8”.

واختتم: “أحمد فتوح وجوده في وسط الملعب يكون له تأثير أكبر، وتوغل داخل منطقة الـ18 أكثر من مرة في مباراة الشباب الأخيرة، وكل اللاعبين سعداء بمراكزهم”.

Steve Rixon, Australia’s assistant coach, has said the remuneration Sri Lanka Cricket offered when they approached him for the job of the national team’s coach was “embarrassing”, considering the position.Though he had not formally applied, Rixon was among the men the board approached after they were underwhelmed by the 11 applications they had received for the role. Rixon is highly rated internationally and within the Sri Lanka team, having coached New Zealand as well as domestic teams in Australia and teams in the Indian Cricket League and the Indian Premier League.Former international coaches Greg Chappell and Tim Nielsen were also approached by SLC but, like Rixon, had declined.”Sri Lanka Cricket sent me a contract which was really embarrassing, I have to say, because it was so poor,” Rixon said. “I’m the assistant coach of Australia, and I get more staying with that job than on the contract they sent through. It was really quite embarrassing for an international coach.”In the end I just texted back several times and said, ‘Look, we’re talking massive differences in the job package, and I’m not here to debate it with anyone, but where I would be coming from is a lot bigger than what Sri Lanka can afford.’ I was looking forward to sitting down and talking to someone, but no one’s really given me that respect I suppose, to be able to do that. And I said no, I’m not really interested.”SLC had evaluated its candidates through a series of interviews and presentations, but Rixon had been perturbed by the request to travel to Sri Lanka for an interview, and by the board’s sporadic communication with him.”Don’t expect me to come running over there to do an interview. Interviews are a waste of time. You either want someone, and you know that, or you don’t,” Rixon said. “I’ve been around first-class cricket for 20-odd years as a coach. I played for 15 years as a player. It’s not as if I’m unknown. I think they’d know what I can and can’t do without sitting me down in front of a group of people. It was a bit disappointing the way it was processed, and in the end I thought it’s not the way to go.”Rixon said his initial interest in the job was borne from his affinity for Sri Lanka over several years of observing the team. However, while insufficient pay drove his decision to decline the job, SLC’s sudden sacking of Geoff Marsh in 2012 and the board’s reputation had contributed to it.”What happened with Geoff Marsh would have been one of the things that played on my mind,” Rixon said. “I’ve also talked to a lot of Sri Lankan players and the fact that they don’t get paid when they’re meant to be paid. The administration has had their share of controversies, and a number of things.”But to be honest, Sri Lanka was always one place that intrigued me. I liked Sri Lanka and I think the country is lovely and, of all the Asian countries, it’s by far the one that appeals to me the most. With the sort of people that you were dealing with around ten years ago, I thought they were good people and it did interest me. I did think about moving to Sri Lanka, but the harsh reality is you don’t have enough money in the set-up.”The only foreign coach that remains on SLC’s two-man shortlist is Mark Davis, a little-known coach who is currently among the staff at Sussex. Rixon suggested the pay attached to the Sri Lanka role would only appeal to coaches on the make.”If you want to get a coach who is a career coach and just making his way, and that sort of thing, no problems, you might get someone for that,” he said. “But you’re not going to get someone who’s been around and coached internationally, and coached all over the world, unless you’re prepared to pay a reasonable dollar. You’re making a big sacrifice to go live in Sri Lanka, and to turn your life on its head. To do that, you really need to have a package that’s certainly acceptable.”

Outro caso relevante é o do volante Júnior Urso. Desfalque nos últimos quatro jogos, também iniciou a transição da academia para o campo na última segunda, como Avelar. Seu caso, porém, é bem mais sério.

Quem está praticamente descartado do jogo contra a Chapecoense é Gustagol. Com um edema na coxa direita, o atacante permaneceu na parte interna do CT Joaquim Grava na última segunda e precisará esperar o inchaço da região diminuir para voltar a treinar com o grupo.
