Chelsea take on Burnley this weekend as Enzo Maresca looks to spearhead a possible Premier League title challenge, with the Blues lying just six points behind table-toppers Arsenal.

Chelsea travel to Turf Moor on Saturday looking to maintain their impressive form against the top flight newcomers.

The Blues currently sit third in the Premier League table, having enjoyed an unbeaten run of four games in all competitions before the international break. Despite some criticism, perhaps overblown at times, Chelsea are in pretty good stead right now, having lost just three times in their 12 outings.

The visitors will be strong favourites against a Burnley side languishing in 17th, with the Clarets enduring four defeats in their last six league games. They haven’t even kept a clean sheet in their previous three, and even more concerning for Scott Parker’s side, Burnley now have the third-worst defence in the division this campaign with 22 goals conceded in 11 matches.

However, Chelsea’s title challenge has been hampered by injuries, particularly to their talismanic forward Cole Palmer.

Palmer has been plagued by a niggling groin issue which even caused him problems at the Club World Cup, limiting him to just four appearances in all competitions this season. Maresca confirmed Palmer would miss another six weeks before the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest last month, though Chelsea are hoping the England international will be back from injury to face Arsenal on November 30 (Simon Phillips).

Injuries and absentees have been a key theme of their campaign so far, with Palmer, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Enzo Fernández, Pedro Neto, Roméo Lavia, Dario Essugo, Liam Delap, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Andrey Santos and Josh Acheampong all missing games at various points so far.

This has prompted Maresca to make the most squad rotations of any Premier League manager so far this season with 93, and it could well be a symptom of their extensive fixture schedule last campaign.

Their current injury list includes Palmer, Essugo, Colwill, Badiashile, Lavia and Neto, with Fernandez ruling himself out of Argentina duty as well.

The latter, who has dazzled since Maresca’s arrival as a key linchpin of Chelsea’s midfield, has now become a crucial player for the west Londoners.

Fernandez is attracting interest from Real Madrid as a result, according to some reports, and supporters have been waiting for an update when it comes to his condition.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, the situation is fairly positive.

While Fernandez has been struggling with knee pain, it is believed that the 24-year-old is expected to be available for Chelsea’s trip to Lancashire this weekend in what is a big boost for Maresca’s side.

Fernandez has emerged as a ‘leader’ at Chelsea who has ‘a bit of everything’, as per Sky pundit Micah Richards, and he’s poised to play a crucial role in Chelsea’s hunt for major silverware.

With Barcelona in the Champions League just days after Burnley and Arsenal the weekend after, having Fernandez fit and firing will be absolutely pivotal.

The midfielder has been deployed in an attacking position when Chelsea are in possession, but drops back alongside Moises Caicedo to defend without the ball, creating a hybrid role that has seriously unlocked Fernandez’s true potential after initially failing to justify his £107 million price tag.

Remarkably, Fernandez is the only player at Chelsea to have 20 direct goal contributions in 2025, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists, with Maresca describing him as an ‘example’ to the team.

Liverpool supporters are likely to be buoyed by some fresh remarks regarding the club’s January transfer business, as FSG line up a move for one of Europe’s brightest defensive talents.

The Reds have looked flawed this season, with record signings Florian Wirtrz and Alexander Isak still bedding in and Mohamed Salah among those out of form, and they also look light on centre-back options.

Granted, Virgil van Dijk largely looks as good as ever, barring a recent dip, but he is 34 years of age and will need replacing eventually, while Ibrahima Konate has flattered to deceive and is injury-prone.

Joe Gomez is another player who is known for his fitness woes in his career, while highly-rated new signing Giovanni Leoni will cruelly miss the rest of the season after suffering ACL damage in the EFL Cup clash with Southampton.

Not only that, but Marc Guehi is now being linked with a move to Bayern Munich, and Liverpool’s failure to sign the Crystal Palace captain on deadline day is increasingly looking like a bitter blow.

The January window will give the Reds a chance to bolster their defensive options, with Bayern Munich’s Dayo Upamecano linked with a move recently, and now another Bundesliga player has been backed to come in.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, who is well connected on Merseyside and now reports for Football Insider, claims Liverpool could look to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck in January, with “serious movement” expected in the market.

“He’s proven to be the best defender so far this season in the Bundesliga. He looks to be a real talent and he’s the right age at 25. Look, there is no doubt Liverpool are working overtime right now trying to fix this defence. They’ve got to push the boat out in January.

“It doesn’t look as though it’s going to be Schlotterbeck now, but he could still be one of the targets, certainly. I do expect to see some serious movement in January from Liverpool, and they’re going to be spending where they probably hadn’t planned to because there’s some some cracks appearing. They’re going to have to get that defence shored up.”

A new centre-back does feel like a pressing matter for Liverpool, given the aforementioned options there, both in terms of form and fitness.

It often feels like a matter of time before Konate misses a chunk of action, and should Van Dijk pick up an injury, it would have the potential to completely derail the Reds’ season.

And when two of the greatest of all time, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, find the form they did during the first ODI between against South Africa, it’s all the more reason for a three-match series to be frenzied.While ODIs are less reliant on luck than T20Is, the first ODI was also an example of how much heavy lifting the side losing the toss has to do. Despite all the pedigree they have, India came within a couple of connected full tosses of possibly losing to a side that has been chopping and changing, and has played 37 players in this year alone.Ranchi was India’s experience and skill coming up against the conditions and the incredible hitting depth in the South Africa line-up. وأردف شوبير: “هذه هي الغرامات المطلوبة لرفع إيقاف القيد، بمجرد السداد يُرفع القرار، ولكن السؤال: هل يُعقل أن مبلغ 313 ألف دولار لا يستطيع محبو الزمالك أو أعضاء مجلس الإدارة تدبيره؟ وأشير هنا إلى معلومة مهمة: الكابتن حسين السيد سبق أن دفع مبالغ كبيرة بالدولار من ماله الخاص”.

واستطرد: “هناك أشخاص يدخلون النادي ويجلسون في الملعب ويعقدون مؤتمرات صحفية.. فما صفتهم؟ حتى عضو مجلس الإدارة لا يمكنه القيام بذلك من دون قرار رسمي من المجلس، القضية ببساطة هي 313 ألف دولار فقط، فأين الحل؟ ولماذا لا يتم إبلاغ الجماهير بالحقائق؟ وما زالت هناك مبالغ أخرى مثل مستحقات شيكابالا وفرجاني ساسي، وهذه قد تصل إلى قرابة مليون ونصف المليون دولار، فما ذنب جماهير الزمالك أن تعيش في هذه الأزمات المتكررة؟”.

وأشار شوبير إلى جانب آخر من الأزمة قائلًا: “عندما عدت إلى القاهرة قبل يومين، سألني أحد الأشخاص عن موضوع أرض أكتوبر، فقلت له: يجب أن تفهم القصة أولًا، لأن أزمة الزمالك بكل تفاصيلها تُختزل الآن في أرض أكتوبر! لكن أين فريق الكرة؟ أين الاستعدادات؟ أين النتائج؟ أين ألعاب الصالات؟ هناك الكثير من الملفات، ولا ينبغي اختزال كل شيء في موضوع أرض أكتوبر، فهذا موضوع إداري يُتابَع مع الدولة والمحاكم، أما الجمهور فليس له علاقة بهذه التفاصيل”.

واختتم: “الكابتن حسين السيد أدلى بتصريحات صحفية، أكد فيها أن الفيفا أبلغ الزمالك رسميًا بقرار إيقاف القيد، وأن النادي يعمل على حل الأزمة. كما أوضح أن إيقاف القيد سيستمر حتى سداد مستحقات جوميز وجهازه وجروس، وأن الإدارة تسعى لإنهاء الأزمة قبل شهر يناير، بإذن الله”.

Atualmente, a comissão técnica de Abel Ferreira possui Piquerez como titular absoluto no setor e Jefté, contratado junto ao futebol escoces na última janela de transferências, como substituto imediato para o uruguaio.

Assim como já revelou em outras oportunidades, Abel Ferreira gosta de trabalhar com três opções para cada setor do campo. No entanto, a vaga de “terceira opção” deve ser preenchida por algum atleta das categorias de base.

A expectativa é que Caio Paulista seja novamente emprestado pelo Palmeiras para a próxima temporada. Uma venda em definitivo também é considerada uma possibilidade, já que o lateral-esquerdo tem contrato válido até dezembro de 2028.

Agora, o Palmeiras aguarda interessados, do futebol brasileiro ou do exterior, para definir o futuro de Caio Paulista. Ao todo, o jogador atuou em 38 partidas na temporada, sendo 36 pelo Atlético-MG, e registrou apenas uma assistência.

Fuchs permanece no Palmeiras

Bruno Fuchs foi envolvido em negociação que enviou o zagueiro por empréstimo de uma temporada ao Palmeiras, enquanto Caio Paulista seguiu o caminho oposto rumo ao Atlético-MG.

Diferentemente do lateral-esquerdo, ele será jogador do Palmeiras em caráter definitivo. Como adiantado pela reportagem do Lance!, as partes já definiram os termos do negócio, que deve ser anunciado nos próximos dias.

Após período de adaptação, Bruno Fuchs se transformou em um dos destaques do sistema defensivo do Palmeiras e chegou a vencer a concorrência com Murilo por uma vaga entre os titulares. Em algumas ocasiões, inclusive, atuou improvisado como primeiro volante.
