It was West Indies’ first ODI series win against Bangladesh in ten years. They had won the last four ODI series between the two sides too. West Indies had on Sunday broken Bangladesh’s 11-match winning streak against them in the first ODI.Jayden Seales’ career-best figures of 4 for 22 led the home side’s bowling efforts as they bowled out the visitors for 227 in 45.5 overs. Brandon King then struck a rapid 82 to accelerate West Indies’ chase, as they completed the win in 36.5 overs. Captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, who struck 113 in the first game, were the unbeaten batters who completed the game.Bangladesh meanwhile have won just one out of their last six ODI series, while West Indies have turned around their fortunes in the format. They have now won consecutive ODI series wins after beating England last month. They had lost ODI series against Australia and Sri Lanka earlier in the year.Seales gave West Indies the foundation for this win. He dealt three early blows before Gudakesh Motie’s solid 2 for 36 kept Bangladesh on a leash for much of the middle overs. Bangladesh could only make a 200-plus total mainly due to a 92-run stand between Mahmudullah and Tanzim Hasan. It is a new record for the eighth wicket for Bangladesh. Mahmudullah’s 62 was also his third consecutive fifty in ODIs.Before Seales took his wickets, Bangladesh got off to a rapid start when Tanzid struck debutant Marquino Mindley for two fours and as many sixes in the first three overs. Seales broke through soon, getting Soumya Sarkar caught at mid-on for two. Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then followed Soumya in the first powerplay, both falling to Seales. Litton plodded along for four off 18 balls before his attempted pull shot was much too early, as it took the toe of the bat, and lobbed to point.Seales then caught Mehidy in two minds, as he tried to leave the ball but it took the inside edge and on to the stumps. Tanzid had kept Bangladesh going at the other end, but he couldn’t convert another start into a big one. After striking Justin Greaves for two fours in the eleventh over, he fell in the same over, caught at point. It was similar to how Tanzid fell in the first ODI.Afif then started well, hitting Romario Shepherd for four boundaries, lofting him twice over his head, and once over cover. Attempting a similar hit off Motie however, Afif fell to a catch at long-off for 24.Jaker Ali and Rishad Hossain Motie then followed quickly, and cheaply. Motie trapped Jaker lbw for three, before Rishad became Mindley’s first ODI wicket, falling for a duck.West Indies were making it look like a cakewalk as they reduced Bangladesh to 115 for seven at this stage. Mahmudullah, who had struck one six till that point, had to trust Tanzim, who previously had a first-class fifty to his name. Tanzim looked determined as he struck two fours before launching Motie for his first six over long-on. Mahmudullah had struck two sixes till that point. The pair then hammered Greaves for a six and a four in consecutive overs, before repeating the same dose a few overs later, on the same bowler.Roston Chase ended the partnership in the 44th over when he caught Tanzim off his own bowling. It was a fine effort from the young cricketer, hitting six boundaries in his 62-ball stay.Mahmudullah followed Tanzim back to the pavilion in the next over, bizarrely hitting Seales’ wide delivery down deep point’s throat. His 62 came off 92 balls, including two fours and four sixes. It is only the second time in his career that Mahmudullah scored three fifties in a row in ODIs.When the home side replied to Bangladesh’s 227, King got off to a strong start with five boundaries in the first seven overs, hitting the ball well square on both sides of the pitch. He moved to 26, while Lewis languished on six off 23 balls. Finally in the ninth over, Lewis struck Tanzim for three boundaries, including a flat six over long-leg.Lewis struck Mehidy for a huge hit down the ground in the 14th over before getting dropped next ball, when Soumya who couldn’t hold on to a difficult chance. Lewis was on 29 at the time. After King reached his half-century off 52 balls in the 16th over, Lewis slammed Mehidy for his third six shortly afterwards. His fourth was a bit of a revenge against Rana who had struck him in the unmentionables during the 20th over.The pair completed their second century opening partnership this year. King has been involved in West Indies’ last five century opening stands. This one ended when Lewis, still reeling from that Rana blow, gave Rishad a caught-and-bowled after making 49 off 62 balls.The wicket didn’t seem to lift Bangladesh who promptly conceded five runs in overthrows. Litton conceded four byes also. Keacy Carty took advantage of their errors, hitting five boundaries while King slammed three sixes in a short spell. He launched Rishad twice, apart from lifting Tanzim down the ground, and on to the roof of the pavilion building.King fell to a Rana yorker in the 29th over. The long shadow of one of the light towers on the pitch could be a reason for King missing that ball, but he walked off quietly after adding 66 runs for the second wicket with Carty. King struck eight fours and three sixes in his 76-ball stay. Carty fell soon after King, slicing a catch to Rana off Afif Hossain, after making 45 off 47 balls. Rutherford and Hope blazed Rishad for a four and a six respectively, in his eighth over.Rutherford played out the final rites of the series when he disdainfully swung Shoriful Islam over square-leg for two sixes in the 37th over, to complete the win.

وخلال المؤتمر الصحفي الخاص باللقاء والذي نقلته صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو”، أشار مدافع كيرات، إيجور سوروتين، إلى أن فريقه درس جيدًا نجوم ريال مدريد وخصوصًا مبابي.

The latest target fits the brief, and reports suggest the Merseyside outfit are prepared to make a significant financial commitment to get their man.

According to Football Insider, Everton have submitted a £37m bid for AS Roma’s powerful Ukrainian striker, Artem Dovbyk.

Dovbyk, 28, has been the subject of widespread Premier League interest this summer, with clubs such as Leeds United, West Ham United and Sunderland all linked to him.

However, Everton appear to be leading the race, aided by the fact that Roma are also owned by the Friedkin Group.

The striker is reportedly keen on a move to England, just 18 months after joining Roma from La Liga side Girona.

His final audition came in a 1-0 pre-season win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Dovbyk featured for 80 minutes.

The Lukaku Comparison

Everton’s interest in this “elite target man”, as he’s been referred to by European football expert Zach Lowy, comes alongside other forward-thinking moves in the market.

They are keeping tabs on right-wing options such as Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, both of whom could operate alongside the Ukrainian in a new-look attack.

Dovbyk’s arrival would also provide valuable mentorship to 22-year-old French striker Thierno Barry, recently signed from Villarreal for £27.6m and boasting a similar physical style of play.

The comparison to Lukaku is an obvious one – and for good reason.

Dovbyk’s stats from his 2023/24 season with Girona underscore just how effective he can be.

The Ukrainian scored 24 goals and provided 8 assists in 36 league appearances, helping the Catalan club secure Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.

According to FBref, he ranked in the 97th percentile for goals per 90 (0.83) and the 97th percentile for expected goals per 90 (0.84), demonstrating the kind of consistency that Everton have been missing for years.

Crucially, Dovbyk isn’t one-dimensional. His link-up play is strong, as shown by his 82nd percentile ranking for expected assists per 90 (0.13), and he is deceptively adept with the ball at his feet, completing 68% of his take-ons.

He also wins nearly half of his aerial duels, adding to his utility as both a hold-up player and a set-piece threat.

When comparing him to Lukaku’s time at Everton, the parallels are striking.

It has long been reported that Villa are eyeing up Chelsea outcast Nicolas Jackson as a striker target this summer, with a recent report even revealing that the £65m striker is one of their main targets.

However, there are other promising talents on their radar, perhaps most notably in the form of Sporting attacker Geny Catamo.

Portuguese outlet A Bola speculate that Villa have offered £17m to the Liga Portugal giants for the services of their rapid winger.

Unfortunately for Emery and Co., only a fee in the region of £26m will suffice.

How Catamo can be Emery's next Ramsey

It could well be a lump sum worth coughing up if the Mozambique international does go on to be as impactful as Ramsey was in flashes for his boyhood side.

Despite largely being used as a substitute option at Villa Park – with 43 of his Premier League appearances for Emery’s men seeing him come off the bench – Ramsey still left a lasting impression on those watching on.

A healthy haul of 14 goals and 12 assists came his way from 136 appearances in the West Midlands, with ex-Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister once even declaring that Ramsey could “go right to the top” despite his impact substitute presence.

Catamo has been showered with equal levels of praise for his gung-ho approach for Sporting, having once been lauded as being “incisive” by former boss Ruben Amorim, before he swapped Lisbon for Manchester.

He could soon be competing against his ex-manager, donning Villa claret and blue, with the quick-thinking 24-year-old only three goal contributions shy of Ramsey’s Villa total, strutting his stuff in the Portuguese top division.

But, much like his English counterpart, Catamo has often had to make do with limited opportunities in the Portuguese capital, having started just 44 of his overall 80 league contests for Sporting.

Yet, that hasn’t stopped him from consistently seizing his opportunity, with Emery hopeful he can find another bright spark – who is similar to the relentless energy of Ramsey – that he can rely on if Catamo were to walk through the door shortly.

With the 24-year-old also capable of playing down the left wing, where Ramsey usually resided for Villa, on top of being another potential face down the opposing right flank, or even through the middle as a number ten, this feels as if it would be a smart next signing to make.

Emery would at least then know that the millions injected into the bank from the Birmingham-born attacker’s exit had been put to good use.

But, with days left until the market slams shut, there is concern that the Red Devils still have a mountain to climb under Ruben Amorim’s wing, having been dumped out of the Carabao Cup in unceremonious fashion by fourth-tier side Grimsby Town.

But the window is still open for the next few days, and while United remains intent on ending their interminable goalkeeping woes, INEOS remain hopeful that they might add to the club’s midfield ranks.

The latest on Man United's midfield search

This summer, Man United have made it known that they wish to sign a midfielder, with efforts for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, both up-and-comers valued in the £100m ballpark.

However, neither has come to fruition, which has left Kobbie Mainoo’s hopes of leaving on loan extinguished. Although Amorim does not favour the young England international, letting him leave would snip at the already slight depth in the engine room.

But things could get a whole lot worse.

As per Caught Offside, United skipper Bruno Fernandes is still considering an exit from Old Trafford, having rejected a lucrative offer to join Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer.

The 30-year-old playmaker felt that jumping ship wouldn’t have been right at the time, but his latent desire to leave is still there, and while Saudi interest hasn’t gone away, growing curiosity from the MLS has factored in too.

While this would be a catastrophic blow (or feel like one, at the least), it might end up being a positive on an individual note for a young star such as Mainoo.

Why Fernandes leaving would be good for Mainoo

Amorim’s decision to field a 3-4-3 and stick to it, for better or for worse, effectively means that Man United operate with two central midfielders. Fernandes has been chosen for half of that role, alongside a more defence-minded partner.

This has limited Mainoo to the periphery, and with Carabao Cup football off the cards and the Red Devils away from European football anyway, it’s clear that the 20-year-old is set for a season of bit-part football.

Fernandes’ departure would change that, and perhaps allow him to spread his wings and showcase his quality as a starting member of a struggling system, maybe even stepping up and demonstrating prodigious talismanic potential.

Last season was one of frustration for Mainoo, no doubt, but he was immense when bursting onto the scene in 2023/24, with Paul Scholes even remarking that watching the multi-faceted midfielder is like “poetry in motion”.

Curiously, Mainoo showcased an uptick in his creative levels last season, even though he struggled to carry the same giddy form from his breakout season into Amorim’s early setup at the Theatre of Dreams.

In that sense, maybe he could indeed step into Fernandes’ boots, bringing a progressive style that stems from his athleticism, physicality and technical quality all.

Mainoo, to be sure, is not an “absolute magician” on the ball like Fernandes is, as described by writer Liam Canning, but he’s got what it takes to become a high-level number eight in the middle of the field, keeping intact that homegrown identity that is woven so deeply into the very fabric of Manchester United.

Fernandes is no spring chicken anymore, and although losing his services would be a detrimental strike against the club’s hopes of progress, Mainoo might view it as the perfect chance to step up and prove his worth.

PV, como é mais conhecido o treinador, chegou ao Palmeiras para sua segunda passagem pelo clube em outubro de 2021. Anteriormente, comandou a equipe sub-15 do Verdão entre 2015 e 2017. South Australia’s bid to host the Sheffield Shield final at Adelaide Oval has been blocked by the AFL with the decider to be played at Karen Rolton Oval as it was originally scheduled.The South Australia Cricket Association and South Australia premier Peter Malinauskas had led a public push to play the final at Adelaide Oval after South Australia locked in hosting rights with a win over Victoria last Sunday.Cricket Australia had originally expected the final to be played at Karen Rolton Oval, starting on March 26, given the drop-in pitches had already been removed from Adelaide Oval for the start of the AFL season. But CA were happy to support Malinauskas and the SACA in their bid to stage the game at the iconic venue which would have required to match to be moved forward two days to start on Monday March 24 to allow for Adelaide Oval’s ground staff to drop a single pitch into the middle of the venue the day after an AFL game that will staged there on Saturday March 22.Related
