Despite sitting top of the Premier League and Champions League, Liverpool are now reportedly keeping tabs on a left-back who could ruthlessly replace the struggling Andrew Robertson.

No matter who stands in front of them on current form, Arne Slot’s Liverpool side seem to cruise to three points. Their recent run of games was billed as the ultimate test as to whether the Reds are pretenders or, indeed, contenders under their new manager.

Nine wins and one draw later, including convincing victories over a Bayer Leverkusen side who were untouchable last season and most recently European champions Real Madrid, the conclusion is undoubtedly that there is nothing false about Liverpool’s latest dawn.

It’s difficult to find criticism in a side who are enjoying such form, but one glaring weakness has remained in recent weeks and that has been Robertson’s struggle to reach his best under Slot.

The Scot was at least spared by Caoimhin Kelleher last night, with his goalkeeper sensational denying Kylian Mbappe from the spot after his left-back’s disappointing foul, but that’s now two penalties in two games. If the Reds want to rise to the top once more then replacing Robertson could be on their to-do list.

With that said, according to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are keeping tabs on PSV’s Matteo Dams as they look to find the heir to Robertson’s current role. Just 20 years old, the PSV Eindhoven left-back has also reportedly attracted the interest of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, giving Liverpool a potential race to win should they push on for his signature.

Given recent links to Milos Kerkez, Antonee Robinson and now Dams, it certainly seems as though Robertson’s starting place at Anfield is nearing its end after what has been an excellent spell.

Replacing the 30-year-old with a player 10 years his junior could be the way forward too. Dams is a rising star and someone that Slot can mould into his ideal left-back as he looks to turn an excellent start into a historic era at Anfield. Described as a player with “great qualities” and “lightning fast” by PSV manager Peter Bosz at the start of the season, there’s no doubt that Dams is one to watch.

With Manchester City and the chance to go 11 points clear awaiting them this Sunday, Liverpool will be desperately hoping that their left-back problem doesn’t rear its head once more. When 2025 arrives, whether it’s with Dams, Robinson or Kerkez, the Reds may replace Robertson.

Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman is reportedly an admirer of Esse and went on a scouting mission when the attacking midfielder scored the winning goal for Millwall against Plymouth Argyle at the end of October. Now, Freedman could be set to get his man when the winter window swings open.

Palace are of course no strangers to welcoming some of the Championship’s most talented players, having signed Eze from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2020 before welcoming Michael Olise – who has since joined Bayern Munich – from Reading one year later.

"Talented" Esse could follow Eze path

An attacking midfielder just as Eze was when he arrived from QPR four years ago, Esse could get the chance to follow the same path as the Crystal Palace star by becoming an integral part at Selhurst Park.

Still just 19 years old, a loan move back to Millwall for the rest of the campaign would certainly be a wise move should Palace secure Esse’s signature in January. At such a young age, game time is crucial and the Lions will be able to offer that over those in South London at this stage.

Former Millwall boss Gary Rowett was one of many fans of Esse, having been so full of praise for the teenager last year. The manager told reporters as relayed by Southwark News: “He’s got so much quality, he’s got so much ability and I think for me you see him first half trying to make things happen, trying to always get on the ball. And you look second half and we’ve got a few senior players and I’m looking going ‘come on then, show the same bravery’.

“So I’ve been pleased with him. There’s been an opportunity to play him a bit further forward at some point. But at the moment his quality is not going to stop him getting in the first team, it’s going to be all the other things around it. He’s already probably as talented as anyone we’ve got. He’s developing really nicely.”

وأوضح حتحوت في تصريحات عبر أثير “أون سبورت إف إم” أن زيزو قال له نصًا: “يا ريت يتم تجميدي، أنا في الأساس بحاجة ماسة للراحة، كنت سأشعر بالضيق إذا تم إيقافي في يناير الماضي عندما تم رفض عرض الاتفاق السعودي، وقتها كان الغياب 5 أشهر كثيرًا، أما الآن فشهر واحد من الراحة سيكون مفيدًا جدًا بالنسبة لي، وسأعود بكامل لياقتي للفريق الجديد إذا قرر الزمالك رحيلي”.

وأضاف زيزو، بحسب ما نقله حتحوت: “أنا على وشك الانفجار.. لو الزمالك أصدر بيانًا يُظهِرني للجمهور كأنني خنت النادي أو بعته، فأنا أيضًا أجهز بيان رحيلي وسأقوم بنشره، وسأوضح فيه كافة الحقائق، لكن حتى الآن أُفضل أن تكون نهاية القصة بيد الزمالك، وليس بقراري، وما زلت أُبقي الباب مفتوحًا للحل، ولا أتهرب من المواجهة”.

وتابع حتحوت نقله لتصريحات زيزو، قائلًا: “كشف زيزو عن معاناته من التهاب في وتر أكيليس منذ 3 أشهر بسبب ضغط المباريات وسوء أرضية الملاعب، مشيرًا إلى أنه يحتاج إلى راحة حقيقية للتعافي”.

واستكمل حتحوت قائلًا: “سألته لماذا فضّلت الانتقال إلى الأهلي بدلًا من عرض خارجي، فأجاب: كان يمكنني الانتقال إلى أحد أندية الخليج لو كانت الأمور قد حُسمت مع نهاية الموسم الماضي، لكن الوضع الآن مختلف، أمامي بطولة أمم إفريقيا، وهدفي الأساسي هو أن أكون لاعبًا أساسيًا، لا مجرد اسم في القائمة، كما أن حلمي الأكبر هو المشاركة في كأس العالم، وهذا يتطلب أن أكون في قمة الجاهزية بدنيًا وفنيًا، وهو أمر لا يمكن تحقيقه إلا بالاستمرار في الدوري المصري، الذي يتميز بمستوى تنافسي عالٍ وتركيز مستمر، صحيح أن الأهلي يشارك في كأس العالم للأندية، وهي ميزة كبيرة، لكنها ليست الأولوية، الأولوية بالنسبة لي هي المنتخب والبطولات القارية التي يشارك فيها”.

وأردف زيزو، بحسب حتحوت: “عرض نادي العين الإماراتي لا يزال قائمًا، لكن المجموعة التي سيخوض منافساتها صعبة للغاية، وتضم فرقًا بحجم مانشستر سيتي ويوفنتوس والوداد، ومن المحتمل أن يودع الفريق البطولة مبكرًا، ليعود بعدها إلى الدوري الإماراتي، الذي يتميز بمستوى تنافسي أقل، وهو ما قد يؤثر سلبًا على فرصي في الانضمام إلى صفوف المنتخب، ولذلك، ورغم أن كلًا من العين والأهلي سيشاركان في كأس العالم للأندية، فإن اللعب للنادي الأهلي يظل الخيار الأنسب بالنسبة لي”.

واستأنف حتحوت حديثه، قائلًا: “قال زيزو بثقة: إذا انتقلت للأهلي سأصنع تاريخًا كما فعلت مع الزمالك، وربنا يبعد عني الإصابات. الأهلي نادٍ كبير، وجمهوره كبير، وسأكون ملتزمًا كما كنت دائمًا”.

وأتم حتحوت نقله للتصريحات بقوله: “قال زيزو لي: عندما يتراجع مستواي في مباراتين أو ثلاثة، ستجد الجميع يتحدث عن تراجع مستواي، اعتبروني أعيش فترة تراجع مستوى ولكن كيف لاعب متراجع فنيًا يسجل 20 هدفًا في الموسم!”.

وأضاف حتحوت: ” زيزو قال ليس لي علاقة بما وقع عليه والدي أو ما إذا كان قد أخذ شيكات أم لا. الناس تقول إنني أنهيت كل شيء، لكن لو كنت قد أنهيت كل شيء، هل كنت سأذهب إلى جنوب إفريقيا في رحلة استغرقت 17 ساعة، أجلس فيها على كرسي في وسط الطائرة بين اثنين لا أعرفهم؟”.

وواصل: “سافرنا بدون صالة رياضية ولا ملاعب ولا فندق جيد! كان الأولى بي ألا أسافر وأن أشتكي من قدمي، ولن أدعي الإصابة، فكما قلت بالفعل قدمي تؤلمني، وأحتاج للراحة بسبب التهابات في وتر أكيليس نتيجة كثرة المباريات التي لعبتها في الفترة الأخيرة. أنا أكثر لاعب في الدوري المصري لعب مباريات ولم أشتكي، لذا أحتاج لراحة، وإذا تم عمل سونار، سيظهر أنني بحاجة على الأقل إلى ثلاثة أسابيع راحة، هذا بخلاف ركبتي التي لا أستطيع أن أصعد على السلم بسببها. ولكن هل شعر أحد بذلك في وقت من الأوقات؟”. 

وتابع: ” زيزو قال نصًا إن الأهلي نادي محترم، وأحترمه مثلما أحترم الزمالك وجماهيره، وحقي أن ألعب له. وعلى فكرة، التاريخ لا يُمحى. عندما كان الزمالك يجدد معي، طلبت فقط شيكات مكتوبة لكي أضمن حقي، لأن العقد شريعة المتعاقدين، هل هذا شيء غير طبيعي أن أطلبه؟ أنا لا أقول أنني أشكك في أحد، لكن أي شخص يمكنه أن يعطيني وعدًا ثم يأتي يومًا ولا يكون موجودًا فيه، أو يقول إنني لم أعد لاعبًا مهمًا أو أنني لن أنفذ الاتفاق”.

واستكمل: “نفس هذه القصة حدثت لي، حيث كانت سيارتي ستسرق من النادي، وقمت بعمل حادثة، وكان من المفترض أن أحرر محضرًا، لكن ممدوح عباس قال لي ألا أفعل ذلك حتى لا أسبب مشكلة للنادي، وقال إنه سيتكفل بإصلاح السيارة لي. بعد ذلك وصلني محضر يفيد بأنني لم أستكمل دفع أموال تصليح السيارة، فذهبت ودفعّت 3 مليون جنيه من جيبي الشخصي بعد أن وعدوني بأنهم سيتحملون التكلفة لأن المشكلة حدثت داخل النادي، وفي النهاية ذهبت لكي أدفع الأموال وقالوا لي: ‘معلش أصل ممدوح بيه قال لما زيزو يخلص موضوعه مع الزمالك نبقى ندفع الفلوس'”.

واستكمل زيزو حديثه قائلاً: “أنا فقط أسأل سؤالًا، لماذا تخسر شخصًا أثبت لك أكثر من مرة أنه يحبك، ويضحي لكي يكمل معك؟”.

وحول توقيعه لأي ناد، قال زيزو: “لن أوقع لأي ناد إلا عندما أحسم موضوعي مع الزمالك، هذا ما قلته لوالدي. ولأوضح للجميع، لا يوجد شيء اسمه توكيل عام في عقود كرة القدم. هذا قد يحدث في العقود التجارية، لكن في عقود كرة القدم من غير القانوني أن يوقع أحد نيابة عني”.

وأتم: “أنا لم أوقع لأي ناد حتى الآن. والدي حتى شهر مارس الماضي لم يجلس مع أي ناد احترامًا للزمالك ولرغبتي، رغم أنه كان بإمكانه الجلوس مع أي ناد منذ يناير. ومع كثرة العروض، أنتم من جعلتم الاختيارات أمامي، ومن حقي أن أختار، كما أجلتني كل هذه الفترة”.

A respeito de Paulo Sousa, o meia-atacante vê “harmonia” entre elenco e treinador, que aplica treinos no Fla desde o dia 10 de janeiro:

– O Paulo é um grande treinador e está ajudando muito o grupo no dia a dia. É importante ter essa harmonia para que possamos conquistar nossos objetivos na sequência da temporada. O grupo e a comissão técnica estão se entendendo bem.

Por falar em Paulo Sousa, o treinador comentou sobre o momento atual de Marinho recentemente, em entrevista coletiva concedida no domingo. O Mister considera que “há um progresso” do Marinho em relação ao entendimento tático de suas ideias e que é fundamental os atletas “se sentirem titulares”.

Paulo Sousa o considera “um jogador de transição para contra-ataque”, conforme já dito em outra entrevista, anteriormente. O português tem trabalhado para que Marinho assimile melhor a sua proposta de jogo para que ele seja aproveitado em mais contextos ao longo das partidas.

FLA NO ‘CAMINHO CERTO’

Na briga por mais espaço, Marinho considera que o Flamengo está no “caminho certo”, o que teria sido ratificado com as vitórias diante do Vasco pelas semifinais do Cariocão:

– Tivemos um ótimo desempenho nas duas partidas contra o Vasco, e isso anima muito. Fizemos dois jogos de alto nível diante um adversário forte. Isso mostra que o grupo está no caminho certo, evoluindo e dando passos importantes para essa sequência que teremos nas próximas semanas.

‘O grupo e a comissão técnica estão se entendendo bem’

Marinho foi contratado pelo Flamengo, junto ao Santos, por R$ 7 milhões. Dos nove jogos pelo Rubro-Negro, foi titular em apenas três – ao todo, soma 281 minutos, além de um gol, marcado em sua estreia, contra o Boavista. Fora o primeiro dos três reforços do clube em 2022.

Assim como o restante do elenco, Marinho se reapresentará às 15h desta quarta-feira, no Ninho do Urubu, para dar início à preparação para a final do Carioca, a ser disputada contra Fluminense ou Botafogo. Ele comentou sobre o período considerável para testes e, quem sabe, progredir em prol de mais minutos em campo:

That face is Vitor Pereira, with Sky Sports News reporting now that the current Al-Shabab boss is nearing a deal to become the next Old Gold manager.

This would make sense as the struggling club’s next appointment, as Wolves are known to favour Portuguese imports, as seen in previous managers such as Nuno Espirito Santo and the make-up of much of the squad.

But, nothing is set in stone until an official announcement is out in the open, with the managerless Old Gold also reportedly looking at this EFL experienced boss as their next man for the dug-out.

As per football journalist Ben Jacobs, John Eustace is “in the frame” to be Wolves’ next manager after the disastrous end to O’Neil’s time in the West Midlands, with the 45-year-old currently succeeding at the helm of Blackburn Rovers.

Already well known to football fans in the Midlands region for his time at Birmingham City, the Old Gold hierarchy could well swoop in last minute to hand him the reins over the inexperienced Pereira if that move doesn’t go to plan.

Eustace was a steady presence at St. Andrew’s during some turbulent recent times in Birmingham’s history, so he could well be the desired figure Wolves need for some momentary calm, having overseen 21 wins in charge of the Blues before his dismissal then signalled relegation for the club.

He has since bounced back from that controversial sacking, as the popular 45-year-old has steered the Riversiders into a surprise playoff spot this season to date, with a remarkable defensive record on display that would lend itself well to the leaky Wolves back four.

Amazingly, Blackburn have picked up six wins on the trot in the unforgiving division of the Championship, with zero goals shipped across their last five victories against some tough opponents in the form of Daniel Farke’s Leeds United and Rob Edwards’ Luton Town.

With Wolves conceding goals for fun as of late near the foot of the Premier League, having now shipped an abysmal 40 strikes, Eustace could well be an unflashy appointment that works for Wolves in their short-term dismal situation, away from tempting Pereira to leave Saudi Arabia for a relegation battle.

Rightfully praised for his heroics in Lancashire so far this season, with equally glowing words coming his way from football journalist Alan Biggs during his stint at Birmingham who labelled the 45-year-old as “excellent”, the time could be right for him to win himself a Premier League calibre job post.

It does seem likely that the Wolves hierarchy will go in a different direction by appointing Pereira, but for some stability in what is a basket-case time at Molineux, the Old Gold would do far worse than to hand Eustace the role instead.
