While the Lilywhites are thought to be after a new striker and potential Harry Kane replacement, as well as Spurs targeting a new winger and centre-midfielder, it is believed another central defender is high on the agenda despite Radu Dragusin's arrival.
The Romanian arrived from Genoa for around £25 million in the January window, and has provided back-up to star defender Micky van de Ven at the heart of Postecoglou's defence. However, some believe van de Ven may well be used as a wildcard left-back option after Destiny Udogie's season-ending injury, so perhaps we could be seeing more of Dragusin in the final few games.
In any case, Postecoglou was forthright in admitting to Tottenham's desire to sign yet another new centre-half later this year: “If you’re saying, ‘Is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes it’s an area we will probably look at”, the Tottenham manager said.

“With all these things, it’s about trying to strengthen the group as much as anything else. If you think about when I first arrived, we had maybe six or seven centre-backs at the club. So it’s not just numbers. It’s more about the ability of those players to play the football we want and to fit in to what we’re trying to build here.
“I think it is an area of the park we will look to strengthen, but I think we’ll look to strengthen all areas of the park come the end of the season. That is planning that’s already underway, and other people are in charge of it at the moment.”
Before Spurs completed a deal for van de Ven last summer, they were heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, who supporters may well remember. The Burkina Faso international, now fresh off the back of a title-winning season at Leverkusen, was "in talks" to join Spurs last year according to Fabrizio Romano at the time.

Bangladesh’s fight in the middle order was bookended by wickets falling cheaply in the first Test against Pakistan, as they were bowled out for 233 on the opening day in Rawalpindi. Bowling first after winning the toss, Pakistan dismantled Bangladesh’s top order to leave them 2 for 3, before the middle order rallied somewhat. But although there were three stands that crossed fifty, none went beyond 59. Najmul Hossain Shanto, playing in just his third Test, rued that the Bangladesh batsmen didn’t capitalise on their partnerships.Shanto (44 off 110) had put on 59 for the third wicket with captain Mominul Haque, while the highest scorer of the innings, Mohammad Mithun, took part in stands of 54 and 53 for the sixth and seventh wickets. Shanto and Mominul were helped by Pakistan’s bowlers spraying the ball a little, perhaps becoming over-eager after the early strikes on a green top. However, the bowlers settled down and found a nagging length, and continued to strike regularly.Six of Bangladesh’s batsmen – from No.3 to No.8 – got starts, going past 20 but Mithun’s 63 was the only fifty-plus score, a fact that Shanto described as disappointing.”There was little bit of movement in the early few overs, but then later it turned into a good batting wicket,” Shanto said. “But I think we needed to be more patient. Season in nutshellBetter than last year when they had the shock of finishing with the wooden spoon but still some way short of the powerhouse side that dominated for many seasons. The schedule was very tough for them without back-to-back home games until the end of the regular season which led to a lot of long return journeys to the east coast. They managed a mid-season run of three consecutive wins which put things on track for a finals place, but two awful batting performances against the Stars were costly although the rain did them no favours in the final game against the Sydney ThunderWhat went right? The good was very good. The opening partnership between Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone was dynamic and the most prolific pairing of the season with 554 runs. Inglis was likened to Brendon McCullum (with even the man himself seeing the similarities) while Livingstone showed tremendous power. Fawad Ahmed and Jhye Richardson, who each took 15 wickets along with Chris Jordan, were also impressive while Jordan’s stunning catch to remove Dan Christian provided one of the highlights of the tournament.
What went wrong? There was too much of a gap between the leading performers and the rest with bat and ball. Mitchell Marsh supported the openers well, but while Cameron Bancroft made nearly 300 runs he sometimes struggled for tempo in the middle order and Ashton Turner had a season to forget with 86 runs in seven innings. The bowling depth was always going to be tested without Jason Behrendorff (long-term back injury) and AJ Tye (elbow) which meant it was a bad time for Matt Kelly (eight wickets, economy 9.38) to struggle to match his 2018-19 performancesPerformance of the seasonMarsh’s 93 off 41 balls against the Brisbane Heat was as clean a display of ball-striking as you could see – and that does some doing behind Livingstone and Inglis. It was important for Marsh to have a good BBL after missing the first part of the season after breaking his hand and this was a show of the power that will keep him in international contention.
Player of the seasonTough to split Livingstone and Inglis, but coming in as an overseas player brings additional expectation to perform and Livingstone lived up to it. Perhaps, occasionally, he went for one big shot too many and his timing eluded him at a vital moment on a tricky pitch against the Thunder but this was an eye-catching season and could put him back in the England frame.Key Stat (Gaurav Sundararaman) From a statistical point of view the Scorchers did not do too badly. Three bowlers took 15 wickets and three batsmen are present in the top 15 run-scorers. The Scorchers lost their finals spot due to their inability to close out matches which they should have won. Against the Strikers they were 0 for 124 in 8.3 overs chasing 198 and against the Stars they lost chasing a paltry 141. They will reflect on these two losses as one of the main reasons they were squeezed out of the finals.

With Liverpool also losing their game against Crystal Palace, it was a squandered opportunity from Mikel Arteta's perspective, as Man City now take the driving seat mathematically and look on course to win a fourth-successive Premier League title – something which has never been done before.
If Arsenal fail to pip Pep Guardiola, attention will turn to where sporting director Edu can strengthen so they can go again next term. Despite Arsenal boasting one of the most impressive attacking records of 2024, it is widely recognised that the north Londoners intent to sign a star striker.

Arsenal offer for Gyokeres likely as Gunners hope to reach agreement
According to Jornal de Noticias this week, as translated by Sport Witness, one goal-getter they think they can reach a deal for is Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.
The clinical Swede has bagged a quite exceptional 36 goals and 16 assists in all competitions for Sporting, and has proved the arguable signing of the season where Europe's top five leagues are concerned.

Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with a move for Gyokeres to solve their natural striker conundrum, with Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus standing out as Arteta's only senior options right now.
Despite the growing interest in Sporting's star striker from across the continent, it is believed an Arsenal bid for Gyokeres is increasingly likely and chiefs are hopeful they can reach an agreement for the £86 million man. Whether or not they will have to pay his release clause, remains to be seen.
Manchester United have endured a season that very few saw coming after Erik ten Hag's successful first campaign in charge of the club last year.
The former Ajax boss looks worryingly out of his depth with just one win to his name in his last five Premier League games, despite playing Burnley, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in that period.
With the recent arrival of new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his ambitious plans to rejuvenate the club, it does feel like just a matter of time until he's replaced as manager, and there have been calls to hire a man who could be the club's own Jürgen Klopp.
Erik ten Hag's season
It really has been a season from hell for the Dutchman this year, and while the extensive injury list at Carrington is far from ideal and certainly hasn't helped, the performances on the pitch have been dreadful.

The club were dumped out of the League Cup by Newcastle United in November and crashed out of the Champions League with one win, one draw and four defeats to their name, and in the league, the Red Devils are sitting in sixth place, 13 points off fourth, with a goal difference of plus one.
However, while it might not feel like it to the fans, the three-time European Champions have had a fair bit of luck this term, at least defensively.
According to Understat, they have scored 4.94 fewer goals than would be expected based on expected goals, but have conceded a whopping 15.72 fewer – the highest in the league – which translates to an expected points total of just 42.25, which would put them around 15th based on those metrics.
Now, while some of that overperformance can be put down to the talent of United's players, the extreme nature of it is more down to luck, luck that has saved a poor season from Ten Hag becoming a genuinely awful one.

With this in mind, it's not surprising to see so much talk about potential replacements coming in, and according to recent reports, one of the said replacements could be Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who has recently been compared to Klopp by a United legend.
Why Thomas Tuchel could be United's Jürgen Klopp
It might seem like a leap to compare Tuchel to Klopp. After all, the pair now epitomise completely different styles of football – at least in the eyes of English fans – with the former associated with pragmatic and arguably defensive football, while the latter is known for getting his sides to play high-intensity football whenever they can.
However, there are several similarities beyond their ages and nationalities, and former United keeper Peter Schmeichel certainly seems to think so. He described the Bayern boss as having the same "kind of thing that Klopp has" and that as a "big-club manager" he would be able to cope with the pressures of the United job.
That said, what are the similarities between the two Germans?
First, the former Chelsea man has previously followed in the footsteps of the Liverpool boss, taking charge of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in his wake. Second, the pair are both larger-than-life personalities that seem to command respect wherever they go – or at least for a few years in Tuchel's case – and if the Krumbach-born gaffer does land the job he would also be walking into an English giant in need of rejuvenation, much like Klopp in 2015.
Lastly, while Tuchel is now seen as a defensively-minded coach by fans in England, he has shown in the past that he is more than happy to play full-throttle football, notably with Dortmund, when his side ended the 2015/16 season with a non-penalty expected goals figure of 78.84, which was 8.62 more than Bayern Munich managed.

With that said, if the 50-year-old is going to replace Ten Hag, how do their managerial records stack up?
Well, in their most recent job, the German comes out ahead, with a points-per-game average of 2.05 to the Dutchman's 1.95. The gap is even more significant when looking at Tuchel's stint at Chelsea, as he averaged 2.08 points-per-game in West London.

Ultimately, while Ten Hag did a good job last season, his poor results this season, combined with his genuinely dreadful underlying numbers, suggest that it's time he moved on.
Therefore, if the Red Devils can get their hands on Tuchel as his replacement, then they should, as while he's not Klopp, he might be the next best thing.

Former USA batsman Srinivas Salver has replaced former national team fast bowler Usman Shuja as male player representative in the lone change in the USA Cricket board after results of the recent election were announced on Saturday night. Atlanta league administrator Venu Pisike won re-election in the other place up for grabs, securing a three-year term as an individual director on the board.Shuja’s loss is a stunning reversal from 2018 when he ran unopposed to win a unanimous vote for an initial one-year term. On this occasion, Salver, 35, won the vote by almost a 3 to 1 margin, claiming 34 votes from current or former players compared to Shuja’s tally of 12. Nine players abstained from voting after having registered. Another 43 players who would have been eligible to vote in the election simply refused to renew their USA Cricket membership in order to be eligible to vote.According to multiple sources, Salver was the preferred candidate among the majority of the current USA squad. Having last represented USA in 2018, Salver has built and maintained strong relationships with most of the current and recent players who have represented USA. Shuja, 41, played his last match for USA in 2014 and could not maintain enough support beyond the previous generation of players.Shuja had been the head of the influential cricket committee when the USA Cricket board was formed in 2018. But in the middle of 2019, he was replaced in that role by Atul Rai. It was around this time that Pubudu Dassanayake resigned as USA head coach and was replaced initially by Kiran More, with strong backing from Rai, before More’s assistant coach James Pamment took over from More in an interim capacity.Pisike’s re-election was expected thanks to a sizeable portion of the registered membership hailing from his Atlanta power-base.
