Hoping to avoid such a tightly-contested race next season, the rumour mill has already started regarding potential additions at Celtic Park. Reports have already linked the Bhoys with a replacement for the retiring Joe Hart in the form of RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen and the number one spot may well be the focus this summer.

Away from incomings, meanwhile, reports have suggested that Brendan Rodgers is on "borrowed time" and the Celtic boss and could yet find himself out of a job come next season following a disappointing return to Celtic Park.

That said, with or without Rodgers, the Scottish giants are seemingly eyeing a move to finally land a long-term target. According to TeamTalk, Celtic are eyeing a second attempt to sign Hugo Bueno from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer after they saw their loan offer for the left-back turned down in January. A move this time around is "possible" after Wolves opted to maintain their squad depth during the winter window.

Bueno was reportedly open to the challenge of playing in Scotland and given that he is still keen to gain consistent first-team minutes, a move to Celtic Park could go through in the coming months. With Spanish and French clubs to contend against though, Celtic will need to act swiftly if they are to finally sign Bueno.

Currently stuck behind Rayan Ait Nouri in the pecking order at Wolves, Bueno needs Celtic as much as they need him to strengthen the left-back spot alongside Greg Taylor.

That said, given that he's been at Wolves since he was 16-years-old, a permanent deal may be a difficult one to negotiate, perhaps making a loan deal the most viable option this summer.

If on loan in Scotland, those in the Midlands will be watching on hoping to see the left-back make strides towards his best, including Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs, who told the club's official website: "Since joining us as a 16-year-old number 10, the work that Hugo and the coaches have put into changing his position, and the acceptance he had of doing that, shows what a good pro he is. To be able to get his head around a new position and develop at the rate he has was incredible.

“Hugo’s one of the huge success stories of the club. Bringing him in from a grassroots team in Spain when he was just 16, and he’s now 21, playing in the Premier League and being a regular Premier League player, it’s testament to everyone involved.”

It really felt like that on the hand, and it’s definitely because of the extra glaze of the ball.”It’s definitely much harder, and it felt a little heavier. Obviously, it can’t be a difference of weight, but for some reason it felt heavier. Even the throws took a lot more effort than the red ball to reach the keeper. And again, the dip perception was very difficult when the ball went up in the air. During the day, high catches will be very difficult. We had to watch the balls straight into our palms more often than not. With red ball and white ball, you catch with the idea of how fast the ball is coming down, but this time if you don’t look down at the ball in your palms, it’s gone. So, I think the fielding session for me was far more challenging than batting. Liverpool have been no strangers to cashing in on players for big money as they have sold several first-team stars for significant fees over the years.

The likes of Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho were sold at the perfect time for big fees after being squad options for the Reds, rather than important players.

However, the Premier League giants have also sold key operators in the past, including Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, who joined Barcelona and Manchester City, respectively, after lighting up the pitch at Anfield with their attacking quality.

The most money Liverpool have ever received for one player in their history, though, was when they sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January 2018.

In fact, it was a British transfer record at the time of the deal, and was cited as one of the most expensive deals in football history, which speaks to how gigantic the move was.

However, if you adjust for the inflation of transfer fees in football over the subsequent years, Liverpool's sale of Fernando Torres to Chelsea seven years earlier was, relatively, worth more to the club.

How much Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho for

The BBC reported that Barcelona paid an initial fee of £105m to sign the Brazil international, with 'realistic' add-ons that could take it up to a staggering £142m.

It was significantly more than the £75m deal that the Spanish giants had agreed with Liverpool to sign Uruguay international Suarez back in the summer of 2014.

The Reds played a masterclass with Coutinho as they signed him from Italian side Inter for a fee of £8.5m in January 2013 and went on to make a huge profit on him five years later.

During his time at Anfield, the Brazilian magician showcased his quality at the top end of the pitch as both a scorer and a creator of goals in the Premier League.

Coutinho racked up 54 goals and 45 assists in 201 appearances for the club in all competitions, which included 41 goals and 37 assists in 152 top-flight outings.

He hit the ground running with three goals and seven assists in 13 Premier League appearances during the second half of the 2012/13 campaign, and never looked back.

As you can see in the table above, Coutinho consistently offered quality at the top end of the pitch from an attacking midfield position, particularly towards the end of his career at Anfield.

A return of 20 goals and 13 assists in his last 45 appearances across the 2016/17 and 2017/18 Premier League campaigns combined works out as as direct goal contribution every 1.36 games on average.

His phenomenal form across those seasons convinced Barcelona to splash out a mega fee to secure his services ahead of the second half of the 2017/18 term, and that remains the most expensive deal in Liverpool history.

However, Torres' move to Chelsea in January 2011 would be worth even more than Coutinho's huge transfer to the Camp Nou in the present day.

How much Chelsea's deal for Fernando Torres would be worth in 2024

Per Totally Money, the Blues splashed out a huge fee of £52.6m to sign the Spain international from Liverpool ahead of the second half of the 2010/11 campaign.

If you adjust for inflation in football transfer fees over the subsequent years, per Totally Money's index, that deal would be worth a mind-boggling £144.9m in the current day – £2.9m more than the total package Barcelona agreed for Coutinho.

Torres, who was signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007, enjoyed a terrific time at Anfield as he showcased his goalscoring prowess in the Premier League over several years.

His first season in England was a roaring success. The Spanish marksman plundered a staggering 33 goals and five assists in 46 appearances, which included 24 goals in 33 Premier League games.

Torres ended his career on Merseyside with a return of 81 goals and 20 assists in 142 outings in all competitions, which is a return of one direct goal contribution every 1.41 clashes on average.

He was a terrific striker for the club and earned Liverpool a huge payday when Chelsea swooped in for a fee that would be worth £144.9m – and more than Coutinho's record sale – in the current day, which shows that they struck gold with that deal.

The 6 foot 1 number nine's form at Stamford Bridge after moving on from Anfield suggests that the Reds also hit the jackpot with the timing of the sale.

Fernando Torres' struggles at Chelsea

The World Cup and European Championship winner with Spain failed to translate his goalscoring exploits for Liverpool over to his time with the Blues.

As you can see in the table above, the Spanish forward never hit double figures for goals or assist in a single league season for Chelsea in four attempts, including three full campaigns.

His 24-goal Premier League season in his first year with Liverpool was nothing but a distant memory, as the big-money flop struggled in front of goal throughout his time with the Blues.

Torres ended his career at Stamford Bridge with a return of 45 goals and 35 assists in 172 appearances in all competitions, which is one goal or assist every 2.15 games on average.

These statistics show that the former Reds star, who did win the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, flopped in London as his form dipped after Liverpool raked in a staggering fee for his services.

Overall, the Merseyside-based outfit struck gold by selling Torres when they did, due to the gigantic amount of money they received and the striker's declining form after the move.

England have finally received some encouraging news on the health front, with Dom Sibley feeling better after being struck down by the illness that has cut a swathe through the visitors’ camp.Opening batsman Sibley became the latest player to succumb to the virus which has hit 17 members of the touring party, including key players and backroom staff, over the past fortnight.Sibley was to be monitored while travelling with the squad to Cape Town on Tuesday for the second Test, starting on January 3, and he was expected to train on New Year’s Day. The fact that no one else has been hit by the bug over the past 24 hours can be regarded as progress, although England management have been eager not to use the illness as an excuse for the side’s lacklustre performance in Centurion which resulted in a 107-run defeat.Some 11 England players have been sick. Despite still being a teenager, Larsson has become an extremely important player for the German club, cementing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.

The number 16 only moved from Malmo in the summer, but he instantly impressed enough to earn a spot in the starting lineup, and throughout the league campaign, he’s made 20 starts.

The player who was formally on Chelsea’s books is a central midfielder who can comfortably play as a box-to-box or in a more defensive-minded role, hence why he’s only scored two goals and provided one assist this season.

However, it was during a game against RB Leipzig that he really proved to be an outstanding prospect, playing a key role in his side picking up a 1-0 away victory.

As you can see, Larsson is the definition of a complete midfielder who can be extremely versatile due to his well-rounded skillset. Therefore it’s no surprise to see that football analyst Ben Mattinson stated that he’s “very similar to Jude Bellingham.”

This was in regard to their style of play being alike, but their mentality, maturity, and professionalism are also similar, and at a young age, that could prove to be even more important than just talent.

Luckily, the midfielder has that in abundance, particularly defensively, due to his ability to contest duels, read the game with ease, and regain possession for this team, as shown by his defensive statistics.

However, the 6 foot 1 engine is also incredibly composed on the ball while having the technical ability to help his side control matches, with his pass accuracy and the lack of times he lost possession providing evidence for that.

Overall, the fact that Larsson has been tearing up the Bundesliga – a higher level than Swedish football – combined with his Bellingham-like profile, may just suggest that he's on course to become a bigger talent than Bergvall.

كان ذلك الفيديو قد صُور منذ عدة سنوات، ولكن لم ينتشر إلا اليوم، وهو ما تسبب في حالة صدمة شديدة لدى ليفربول وجماهيره.

وظهر ديفيد كوت وهو يسب ليفربول ويصفه بـ”القمامة” قبل أن يوجه إهانات وألفاظًا بذيئة تجاه كلوب (لمطالعة التفاصيل من هنا).

من جانبها، أكدت الصحف المختلفة منذ قليل أن الهيئة المسؤولة عن التحكيم في إنجلترا أصدرت قرارها بإيقاف ديفيد كوت لحين إجراء التحقيق.

وقالت الهيئة، في بيانها المنشور عبر الصحف الإنجليزية وعلى رأسها “تايمز” منذ قليل: “تم إيقاف ديفيد كوت على الفور في انتظار إجراء تحقيق كامل”.

وأضافت: “لن نقوم بإدلاء بأي تعليقات أخرى حتى اكتمال هذه العملية”.
