Spurs Will Interview 44 y/o Boss Over Manager Role

Tottenham Hotspur manager candidate Arne Slot will have an interview with the club to see if the two parties are a 'good match' for each other, according to journalist Dean Jones.

What's the latest news involving Arne Slot?

As per The Daily Mail, Slot is set to become Tottenham manager if his agent Rafaela Pimenta can negotiate his exit from Feyenoord, with the 44-year-old said to be Daniel Levy's preferred choice for the role.

Nothing can be decided until Pimenta meets with Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese in Rotterdam, though it is believed that Spurs may incur a compensation bill of £10 million to be able to hire the Dutchman.

Football Insider claim that discussions between Tottenham and Slot are at an 'advanced stage' and he has 'hugely impressed' Spurs' chiefs with his vision for the club.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Slot was one of the top candidates for the job on Twitter, stating: "Negotiations between Nagelsmann and Tottenham have not resumed, at this stage. No changes: he'd only consider the job with supportive sporting director. Arne Slot, concrete option discussed internally; while Luis Enrique, Amorim and Postecoglou remain on Levy list."

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jones thinks that Slot and Tottenham need to 'understand' if they indeed 'compliment' each other as Spurs look to find the right candidate.

Jones told FFC: "I mean, Slot's obviously got an interview and stuff, so it is a chance for both parties to feel each other out and to understand how they could help each other moving forward and how they can complement each other. I think it's an interesting conversation to be had to see whether it is definitely a good match. That's the stage that we're at with that."

Would Arne Slot be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur as manager?

Slot offers something different as a prospective Spurs manager and could help lead the club through a much-needed transition on the field.

Of course, his exploits have earned him plaudits from around Europe this term, as his Feyenoord side cruised to the Eredivisie title, becoming champions of the Netherlands for only the second time this century, as per BBC Sport.

Feyenoord coachArneSlot

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has compared Slot to Pep Guardiola due to his tactical methodology, stating to talkSPORT: “It’s a risk. But then again, this man is in demand. He’s brought the best style of football I’ve seen for 40 years at the club. It’s almost a copy of Pep Guardiola’s style. That’s what the people love and probably, that is why Daniel Levy is considering him as the ideal candidate to change something at Spurs finally.”

Slot is highly rated in footballing circles and his appointment would boost morale at Tottenham going into next season as they look to erase a disappointing 2022/23 campaign from their memory.

Mark Stoneman and Calum MacLeod shared Durham’s record Twenty20 stand of 141 as they beat Derbyshire by 13 runs at Emirates Riverside. Both teams went into the match knowing that victory could get them into the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals if either Warwickshire or Yorkshire lost.Warwickshire duly obliged, so Durham overtook them to go through in fourth place. It was due reward for amassing 193 for two, to which Derbyshire replied with 180 for 9.The visitors were up with the rate while skipper Wes Durston was making 44 off 26 balls, but when he was third out in the eighth over they lost momentum. It looked too tall an order by the time New Zealanders Neil Broom and Jimmy Neesham needed 99 off the last eight overs and left-hander Neesham holed out at long-on for six.Shiv Thakor revived hopes with three sixes off the spinners in making 26 off ten balls, but once he had skied Scott Borthwick to cover it was as good as over.Although Broom showed his class in making 68 off 43 balls, Derbyshire threw wickets away in desperation and slipped to 150 for eight before debutant wicketkeeper Alex Mellor, on loan from Warwickshire, helped to put on 26 before Broom was well caught by MacLeod at long-on in the final over.Stoneman, who is joining Surrey at the end of the season, batted through the Durham innings for 82 off 56 balls, with eight fours and one six, while MacLeod’s 83 came off 50 balls and included three sixes. He also shared the county’s previous T20 record stand of 126, set with John Hastings against Northants two years ago.Stoneman hit four fours through the off side in the first three overs, two of them in the third as Ben Cotton conceded 14.Keaton Jennings, taking Phil Mustard’s place at the top of the order, also began to find the boundary in a stand of 48.Stoneman, on 23, survived a steepler to Neesham, backtracking from mid-off, in an eventful sixth over from Thakor.Jennings followed up by twice driving the medium pacer down the ground, but when he tried for a third wide of mid-off Chesney Hughes flung himself to his right and held a sensational catch.Jennings’ exit halted the boundaries until MacLeod hit the last two balls of the tenth over for four and six.He swept Durston’s off spin behind square then lifted him over long-on to take the score to 89 after ten.Thakor conceded only six runs in the 16th over, but then went for 17 in the 18th, leaving Neesham with the best figures of one for 25 after conceding only seven in the final over, when he also had MacLeod caught at short fine leg.Derbyshire lost Hamish Rutherford for one in the first over, when he pulled straight to mid-wicket as Chris Rushworth picked up 2 for 14 in three overs. His other victim was Chesney Hughes, who chipped the first ball to mid-wicket when Rushworth returned for the sixth over.At 51 for 2 after the powerplay, Derbyshire were two ahead of Durham at the same stage. But Durston departed for 44, made off 26 balls, when he tried to paddle Jennings’ medium pace to fine leg and was bowled.

Coetzer, Mommsen star in thumping Scotland win

Scotland’s batsmen orchestrated a run fest at The Grange as captain Preston Mommsen and vice-captain Kyle Coetzer brought up centuries in a 98-run rout over UAE

‘Every win is cherished’ – Mommsen

Scotland’s batsmen celebrated the annual Fringe Festival in Edinburgh by orchestrating a run fest of their own at The Grange Cricket Club Ground on Sunday afternoon as captain Preston Mommsen and vice-captain Kyle Coetzer brought up centuries in a 98-run rout over UAE.It was just the second time that two Scotland batsmen scored centuries in the same ODI, the previous effort coming seven years ago in a loss to Canada. Coetzer, Richie Berrington and Mommsen also each passed 1000 career ODI runs each – in that order – joining Gavin Hamilton and Neil McCallum.Coetzer ensured the hosts would not be on the losing end this time, his 127 laying the platform for Scotland’s second-highest ODI total – 327 for 5. UAE let themselves down badly after sending Scotland in at the toss. Mohammad Shahzad set the tone for a wretched fielding display when, in the third over, opener Craig Wallace top-edged his first delivery but Shahzad spilled a straightforward chance at long leg. That opened the doors for a 78-run opening stand. Coetzer targetted Mohammad Naveed and captain Amjad Javed during the Powerplay, and at one point, clubbed six fours and a six in the space of 15 balls off Naveed, Javed and Krishna Chandran to bring up his half-century off 37 balls.Left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza’s introduction slowed Scotland as he removed Wallace for 16 with his third ball. Raza also got Calum MacLeod, with a simple return catch, in the 20th over in a superb spell of 2 for 28 where he bowled 10 overs straight. Coetzer had been dropped on 73 off Raza when a top-edged sweep looped up straight to Naveed, who was positioned perfectly on the circle at short fine leg, but let it through his hands. The drop seemed to play on the mind of Naveed, who returned for a second spell in the 29th over and routinely dropped too short to be punished by Coetzer. In all, Coetzer struck nine of his 14 fours off Naveed, including a cover drive in the 33rd over for his 12th four and third ODI ton, off 102 balls.Kyle Coetzer scored 127 and crossed 1000 career ODI runs•Peter Della Penna

The third-wicket stand with Mommsen had realised 112 before Coetzer drove to long-on where Shaiman Anwar took a juggling catch on the rope to give Shahzad his first wicket. Anwar took another catch at long-on off Shahzad two overs later to remove Michael Leask for 10, leaving Scotland 236 for 4 in the 41st over.Mommsen, though, propelled Scotland to 91 off the last nine overs, including a 69-run stand with Richie Berrington for the fifth wicket. The stand ended in the 48th over when Berrington skied one to the deep point sweeper for a 16-ball 27. While Coetzer profited most from the straight boundaries, Mommsen peppered the leg-side rope for eight of his nine fours, including a series of paddle sweeps. Mommsen got to his fifty in 61 balls, and took only another 34 to bring up his second ODI ton.A scoop over fine leg off Shahzad in the final over gave Mommsen 1000 career ODI runs. His only prior ODI ton also came against UAE, an unbeaten 139 to win the final of the 2014 World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.UAE’s chase got off to a very confident start with Rohan Mustafa and L Sreekumar racking up 68 in the Powerplay. Sreekumar flicked Alasdair Evans for two fours over midwicket and a third driven back down the ground in the medium-pacer’s first over, which went for 16. But Evans dragged his length back in his next over, the 12th of the innings, and Sreekumar fended a short ball to wicketkeeper Matthew Cross to end the opening stand on 72. Evans claimed Mustafa in the 16th over for 43, courtesy of a spectacular diving catch at point by Berrington to make it 79 for 2.From there, wickets fell at regular intervals with Con de Lange applying solid pressure in a superb display of left-arm spin to finish with 2 for 35. The next best partnership was 40 for the eighth wicket as Javed made a late fightback with 32 off 19. Javed hit Evans hard in the 41st over, before miscuing one to extra cover. Evans knocked over Chandran next to finish with 4 for 41 in eight overs, before Leask sealed the match, having Saqlain Haider top-edge to fine leg as UAE were bowled out for 229 in 43.3 overs. The win for Scotland brought them level with Hong Kong on the WCL Championship table in second place with nine points, three behind Netherlands. UAE remains in joint-last place with Namibia on two points. The two sides face off again on Tuesday.

Aston Villa: Emery Could Bring £43m ‘Sensation’ To Villa Park

Aston Villa are reportedly looking ahead to the summer transfer window, with the latest rumours linking a young forward to the club.

The Villans have enjoyed a journey of success since the arrival of Unai Emery in October, with the destination potentially being Europe with just one game remaining in this Premier League campaign.

Despite firing Villa from bottom-half dwellers to European hopefuls, the Spaniard is targeting a busy summer, telling The Athletic in April when he revealed his plans to increase squad depth in the break.

The four-time Europa League winner reportedly has increased interest in players from La Liga, as relayed through the speculated potential arrivals, with the latest name being one famed in the Basque Country.

What’s the latest on Nico Williams to Aston Villa?

As revealed by a report from The Athletic last week, Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams is believed to be a target for Emery at Villa Park.

The Spaniard was linked to the club in January, however with his contract expiring next summer, it could be time for Bilbao to cash in on his talents rather than see him leave as a free agent.

The 20-year-old has a €50m (£43m) release clause, with the Daily Mail reporting back in February that Emery could “revive” his interest in the winger in the coming window.

What could Nico Williams bring to Aston Villa?

Brother of Bilbao hero Inaki Williams, the youngster has been lauded by his older sibling for his capabilities.

Speaking in comments relayed by the BBC, the 28-year-old claimed the rising-star was more “technically” capable than him, and described him as having “confidence with both feet”.

The Pamplona-born ace is most known for his dribbling abilities, as conveyed by WhoScored when weighing up the player’s strengths.

His traits are supported through his on-field numbers, with the exciting winger ranking in the top 5% of players in Europe’s top five leagues in his position when it comes to progressive carries, averaging 5.92 per 90 – as per FBref.

The Spaniard’s skill on the ball could be reformative in Emery’s system, with the 51-year-old stating he desired to sign a "specialist winger" in January.

In comparison to Villa’s options now, the young star could certainly rival Jacob Ramsey, but furtherly be a significant upgrade on Bertrand Traore, who ranks poorly next to the “sensation”, as dubbed by journalist Shina Oludare.

The 27-year-old has averaged a dismal 0.1 (25%) successful dribbles per game this season, with the Bilbao ace registering 2.2 (48%) in La Liga – as per Sofascore.

In terms of actual goal threat, Williams could administer more in the squad than Traore, scoring six goals in Spain's top division this campaign, with the Villa man scoring just nine times in the last three seasons.

Likened statistically by FBref to Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli, who netted 15 Premier League goals this season, Williams could be a livewire if introduced to the league, particularly in Emery’s plans.

At a young age and budding period of his career, the forward could be nurtured by the Spaniard who is famed to have elevated the careers of a host of young forwards, most notably Bukayo Saka in whom he handed his professional debut.

With the speculation hanging on whether the young ace is handed a new contract at Bilbao, his movements will certainly be something to monitor this summer.

Arsenal: Gunners Standing By With "World Class" Player Bid

Arsenal are standing by with an £85 million bid to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice this summer, according to an inside source for Claret & Hugh.

Who could join Arsenal this summer?

Mikel Arteta, looking to build upon Arsenal's promising 2022/2023 campaign, will have his eyes firmly on the summer transfer market to shore up key positions.

The north Londoners will take real encouragement from just how long they pushed champions Man City, not to mention they were in pole position for much of the campaign.

Having just fell short of winning their first Premier League title in nearly 20 years, it's time for Arsenal to invest and push forward, with sporting director Edu confirming plans are already underway.

"Our planning has already been done," said the Brazilian to ESPN in April (via 90min)."It has already reached the owners. Now, we're taking things step by step. We're focused on how we will finish the season, but we've put in the planning and I'm very excited."

Arsenal are reliably believed to be chasing the signing of a new central midfielder or two, both in more advanced areas and defensively, with Brighton's Moises Caicedo and West Ham's Rice among the primary targets.

Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan and Southampton's Romeo Lavia have also been linked, with West Ham website Claret and Hugh sharing an update on Rice in particular.

declan-rice-arsenal-transfer-moises-caicedo-gossip-arteta-vieira-fabregas

According to the outlet, sharing news from an inside source who is even quoted, Arsenal are standing by with an £85 million bid for the 24-year-old.

Commenting on this, an unnamed insider told C&H this is what West Ham are expecting from the Gunners, but there is hope at the London Stadium that an auction can sparked to drive Rice's,price up.

"That is what we believe will be put to us as there appears to be a lack of money around generally this summer," said the key C&H source and Hammers insider on Arsenal's prospective offer.“However, we expect bids from two or three clubs once we play our last game as they respect our season is still very much going on“We would have to hope that clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea may come in which of course would see the figures rise.”

Who is Declan Rice?

The England international, who has been called "world class" by West Ham's former head of academy recruitment David Hunt, is certainly living up to that tag.

Praised for his performances under both Gareth Southgate and David Moyes, Rice stood out as West Ham's best-performing player by average match rating last season (WhoScored).

He was imperious in the midfield, averaging more interceptions per 90 than any Hammers player in the top flight, but this report suggests he could be an expensive option this summer.

Bayern Munich's presence in the race will only heighten his value further, and it will be interesting to see just how far Arsena are willing to go.

Changing formats a challenge for modern batsmen – Kumble

India coach Anil Kumble spoke of the challenges faced by not just Indian batsmen, but any modern batsman batting out of his comfort zone, two days before the start of the first Test, in Kanpur

Sidharth Monga in Kanpur20-Sep-20161:08

Kumble ‘proud’ to coach in 500th Test

One of the reasons New Zealand are expected to fare better than South Africa in Indian conditions is that they have three spinners, three varieties of spinners, two of whom have had success in India in the shortest format of the game. On the other hand, though, India’s batsmen are expected to have improved their game on such tracks. They will be expected to do better than last year, when only Ajinkya Rahane managed to score a hundred and average over 35. It won’t be easy, though, should the pitches be similar.Anil Kumble, India’s coach, spoke of the challenges faced by not just Indian batsmen, but any modern batsman batting out of his comfort zone, two days before the start of the first Test in Kanpur.”It is quite challenging for a modern-day cricketer to keep changing formats,” Kumble said. “Invariably, when you are playing the shorter format, it’s in favour of the batsmen. There is hardly anything for the bowler. So, obviously, when they come to play in a Test match, irrespective of the conditions, seam or spin…”We have seen modern cricketers, who, if you look at their records in previous years, they were all good players of fast bowling. But they have struggled on seaming tracks because of what the modern batsman encounters. That goes with all teams. But one good thing we have had is we are coming off a Test series, and we have a long Test season at home. So it’ll only get better. And in terms of our preparations, we have spent a lot of time focusing on preparing to play spinners, and how to respond to playing spinners. And it will only improve, which you’ll notice as the series goes by.”According to Kumble, the problem persists despite knowing what to expect in today’s world of analysis. “I don’t think there is any intrigue left, but the challenge is to adapt to those conditions as quickly as possible,” he said. “It’s equally the same for the home team as well because you’re playing so much of cricket. It’s all about adapting to whatever challenges are forthcoming. Yes, the home team certainly has the advantage of knowing and playing in these conditions, growing up in these conditions.”For a foreign team, since they travel so much – and even for the Indian team now because we have travelled so much – the conditions are no longer alien. It’s all about how good and how committed you are, and what kind of quality cricket you can put across on the park.”India’s preparations have been thorough. They assembled in Kanpur on September 17, five days before the first Test, and began with their fitness tests. Knowing they could have to face a lot of left-arm pace in the series from Trent Boult and Neil Wagner, they called up Delhi’s Pradeep Sangwan and Rajasthan’s Aniket Choudhary to bowl in the nets. They were helped by two pretty good local left-arm quicks. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who is from Kanpur, was at the nets too.The training sessions were long and intense. On Monday, they went on for at least two hours either side of their press conference, virtually spending the whole day at the ground. Kumble said they were not underestimating the opposition.”The New Zealand team have done really well,” Kumble said. “They are not just good at home, but they tour really well, and we’re aware of that. The fact that they have three spinners, yes, we watch them – at least I watched them – two of the three spinners in the World T20. They played a significant role in New Zealand’s progress. We respect the opposition and we know that New Zealand is a very potent team, not just in the spin department, but all-round as well. We certainly respect their all-round ability. They have different variations in their spin attack – left-arm spinner, offspinner, legspinner. That is something you don’t often see in a foreign team.”

Rangers Could Unlock Raskin With £14k-p/w Swoop

Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale has already snapped up three signings to bolster his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Jack Butland are all set to arrive at Ibrox at the start of next month on free transfers.

These deals follow on from his swoops to land Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell in the January transfer window, and they both caught the eye in the second half of 22/23.

Raskin arrived on a permanent deal from Standard Liege and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.90 across his 12 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and made 0.6 key passes per game and created one 'big chance' for his teammates.

However, there could be more to come from the Belgian talent as his form in the Pro League suggests that Beale could unlock more creativity from the 22-year-old.

How can Rangers unlock Nicolas Raskin?

The Light Blues head coach could unlock the best out of the young dynamo by securing a bargain free transfer for reported target Dimitrios Kourbelis.

He is a defensive midfielder by trade, who made 2.1 tackles and interceptions per game in the Greek top-flight in 22/23, and could be available for nothing this summer as his contract with Panathinaikos expires at the end of the month.

Bringing in an enforcer who can sit at the base of the midfield would allow Raskin to move further up the pitch and operate in areas where he can utilise his passing quality to open up the opposition.

In the first half of the 22/23 campaign, the Belgian maestro created four 'big chances' for his teammates and made 1.1 key passes per game, whilst averaging a Sofascore rating of 7.01, indicating that he has far more to give in the final third than he has displayed so far for the Gers and could improve the club's attack next term by taking on added responsibility in possession.

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

Kourbelis has played 167 career club matches as a number six, alongside appearances at right-back and centre-back, showing that he is experienced in that position and would be able to be a dependable option for Beale to call upon in front of the back four.

The £14k-per-week battler, who has been capped 30 times by Greece, displayed his defensive qualities during his country's attempts to qualify for the 2021 European Championships.

He made 3.8 tackles and interceptions per game across eight qualifying matches, demonstrating that he is capable of regularly cutting out opposition attacks.

Therefore, Beale could unlock Raskin's creativity in midfield by signing Kourbelis, whose defensive play was hailed as "superb" by journalist Josh Bunting, to sit behind the Belgian ace and allow him to push on and do what he does best further up the pitch.
