Huge 13-goal Star Could Replace Rodrigo At Leeds

Leeds United will likely need a new goalscorer in the summer transfer window if they want to secure an instant return to the Premier League.

Sunday's 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur saw them relegated without much fight and a summer exodus from Elland Road now seems likely.

One man who could depart the Yorkshire outfit is 32-year-old forward Rodrigo, who enjoyed a fine individual season despite Leeds' return to the second tier, hitting 13 goals and one assist in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have been linked with the Spaniard who seems a prime candidate to depart, as the statistics from this season suggest that he is far too good a player to be playing in the Championship.

One man who could replace Rodrigo at Elland Road is Honduran forward Luis Palma, who has been linked with a move to Leeds in recent weeks.

Could Leeds sign Luis Palma?

According to Diez, both Burnley and Leeds are interested in signing the 23-year-old after a fine season with Aris Saloniki in the Greek Super League.

The young striker has notched an impressive 13 goals and eight assists in 36 appearances this term, which is more goal contributions than anyone in Leeds' squad, while he also has experience playing in the Europa Conference League.

Aris manager Apostolos Terzis was full of praise for Palma after his goals helped the Greek side secure a spot in Europe again for next season, something which may make it harder for Leeds to prise him away in the upcoming transfer window.

He said: "Luis has done that all season. He has been a huge player for us. We know there has been a lot of interest in him and it's not surprising.”

Leeds United'sRodrigoreacts

Capable of playing anywhere across the attack, the Honduras international could easily fill the void that will likely be left by Rodrigo, provided he can bring his goalscoring form with him to Elland Road this summer.

With Patrick Bamford's fitness still questionable and club-record signing Georginio Rutter enduring a torrid few months at the club which saw him muster just one start, a new senior striker could well be a priority for whichever manager succeeds Sam Allardyce this summer.

Bamford has shown his class in the Championship in the past but looked a shadow of his former self this term, managing just four goals in the top flight despite registering an expected goals tally of 9.77.

Although youngsters such as Joe Gelhardt and Sonny Perkins will both be hoping to make the step up into the first team, a more experienced goalscorer may be required if Leeds want to bounce back at the first time of asking, and Palma could be the ideal man for Andrea Radrizzani to sign, should he remain at the club this summer.

Middlesex close in after late wickets

Warwickshire closed the third day on 74 for 3 in pursuit of the target of 338 set by the Division One leaders when they declared their second innings at 267 for 7 at tea.Half-centuries from Sam Robson and Stevie Eskinazi underpinned Middlesex’s batting, which was largely unhurried despite the possibility of rain taking time out of the final day. They have backed their bowlers to feed again upon the fragility evident in Warwickshire’s first-innings batting when their last eight wickets disappeared for 50 runs. Those bowlers duly removed the top three – Varun Chopra, Ian Westwood and Jonathan Trott – before the close to leave Warwickshire requiring a massive salvage operation in which they will look to captain Ian Bell, unbeaten on 12 overnight, for the backbone.Resuming on the third morning on 61 without loss, Middlesex lost two quick wickets as Nick Gubbins (46) fell lbw to Jeetan Patel and Nick Compton’s middle-stump was plucked out by Keith Barker. Dawid Malan edged Patel to wicketkeeper Alex Mellor but Robson and Eskinazi batted in measured fashion to add 97 in 33.4 overs before, with tea looming, a belated attempt to increase the tempo brought a flurry of wickets for the spinners.Robson swept Patel to deep square-leg and Eskinazi was bowled by Josh Poysden, who also castled Toby Roland-Jones and had James Franklin caught at deep gully. The young legspinner finished with 3 for 80 for match-figures of 8 for 133.Chasing 338 in a day and a session, Warwickshire soon lost Chopra who edged Roland-Jones to Robson at slip. On a used pitch which has assisted spinners throughout, the slower bowlers were soon operating and both quickly struck. Ravi Patel’s 19th ball trapped Trott lbw and Rayner won a leg-before against Westwood to acquire his sixth wicket of the match.Bell and nightwatchman Chris Wright saw it through to the close but Middlesex left the field knowing they have done most of the hard work towards a huge victory.

Wolves May Not Give £80k p/w Ace First-Team Chance

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui may not grant Fabio Silva an opportunity to impress him once he returns from his loan at PSV Eindhoven, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

What's the latest news involving Fabio Silva?

As per Voetbal International via Sport Witness, youngster Silva has signalled his intention to spend another campaign on loan at PSV, stating in an interview: “If it’s up to me, I’ll definitely stay here for another season because I think it’s good for my development.”

The £35 million signing joined Anderlecht on loan at the start of this season before completing a move to PSV on a temporary deal in January for the remainder of this term. This could indicate that he is seen as out-of-favour at Molineux by Lopetegui.

In his time at the Philips Stadion, the £80k-a-week ace has registered five goals and two assists in all competitions for his loan club, as per Transfermarkt.

TalkSPORT also understand that Wolves are plotting a move to bring in Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, which could push Silva even further down the pecking order in the West Midlands upon his return to the club in pre-season.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Sheth has suggested that Lopetegui and Silva may go in a 'different direction' rather than trying to revive his career at the Old Gold next term.

Sheth said: "It's interesting what has happened this season because Silva went out on loan under Bruno Lage. Bruno Lage allowed him to go out on loan to Anderlecht. PSV Eindhoven were then interested in January. Lopetegui was already in situ. So he actually would have been part of the process that would have said 'Yes, you can make that move to PSV'.

"I just wonder whether that's a sign of Lopetegui saying, 'Yeah, we're moving on in a different direction'. Or whether it's to see what Fabio Silva does when he comes back, if he does do preseason with Wolves, or whether he's moved on immediately.

"I just think that Lopetegui allowing him to go to PSV on loan might be a sign to say, 'Okay, we're going to move in a different direction.'"

Should Wolverhampton Wanderers look to move on Fabio Silva this summer?

If possible, both parties shaking hands and moving on may be the best option come the summer as Silva looks to get his career back on a steady path.

Across his time at Wolves, the 20-year-old has hit the net just four times and provided six assists in 62 outings, as per Transfermarkt, showing that he has not had the best of luck in his spell at Molineux.

Fabio Silva in action for PSV Einhoven pictured with Luuk De Jong in their Europa League clash against Sevilla.

Silva has excelled in the art of touches in the opposition penalty area and has fared well in comparison to his positional peers in the next eight divisions outside of Europe's top five leagues, managing an average of 7.53 per 90 minutes over the last 365 days, as per FBRef.

Wolves look set for an off-season of upheaval and Silva moving on either on loan again or permanently may be a wise choice by Lopetegui.

Indeed, with Sasa Kalajdzic possibly back for the start of next season, there is already a striking option people may have forgotten about, although, Diego Costa and Raul Jimenez look set to leave.

Poysden's maiden five-for checks Middlesex

ScorecardJosh Poysden’s maiden five-wicket haul saw Middlesex bundled out for 242•Getty ImagesIf Middlesex, the narrow Division One leaders, are to end their 23-year wait to claim the County Championship title for the 11th time outright they will do so via a difficult route, having to negotiate three away fixtures even before they contemplate a potentially decisive finale against Yorkshire.Lancashire at Old Trafford, where they secured a draw to avoid relegation only a couple of years ago, will not be easy, and they can expect even hapless Nottinghamshire, where they travel next week, to be fighting for survival. Yet this one might be the biggest test, even though Warwickshire have not won at Edgbaston all season. They have a depleted side, for one thing. George Bailey has left to join Australia’s one-day squad in Sri Lanka, and the expected return of Adam Voges for the title run-in has been blocked by Cricket Australia, who want him to rest after picking up a hamstring injury. Steven Finn remains sidelined with injury, though he is back in training and may feature at Notts. There is no Eoin Morgan, of course, but Ireland’s call on Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh has not been well received. For another, Warwickshire have prepared a pitch – the same one used for both Twenty20 Finals Day and the 50-over semi-final earlier this week – for turn, selecting both Jeetan Patel and Josh Poysden, the legspinner, who excelled himself by completing his first five-wicket haul even before Patel had claimed one. Middlesex have countered by including Ravi Patel as well as Ollie Rayner and will not have to bat last after taking the optional toss and winning it, but the junior of the two spinners has not played in the Championship all year and, as many a slow bowler will testify, being asked to drop into a team and immediately find your rhythm can be a real test.Their position on day one, though, is difficult to assess. Sam Robson, whose return from injury was supposed to be the big compensation, fell to his third ball and Nick Gubbins, the young opener who has been the mainstay of their batting, took the single he needed to complete 1000 Championship runs for the season but was out after adding just one more. Dawid Malan managed the only half-century yet and between them the rest managed to eke out what might be a decent first-innings return. Then again, it might not.Warwickshire had only to face two overs at the close but the second of those was bowled by Rayner, which tells you all you need to know about what Middlesex expect from the pitch on day two. He and Patel can expect to be busy.Poysden found something in it to his liking on day one. Recalled in preference to seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby, the 25-year-old eclipsed his previous best – 4 for 85 against Hampshire here on his last appearance in early July – in a performance that was on the whole most impressive, one in which he bowled with good control and variation. His first over, the last of the morning session, was unfortunate for Ian Westwood, who copped a nasty blow fielding at short leg as his team-mate unwittingly fed Malan a long-hop, and the last over of his first proper spell conceded three boundaries, but otherwise he was commendably tidy and allowed no batsmen to feel comfortable. He turned one away from the left-handed Malan that found the edge to be taken at slip, then dismissed John Simpson at short leg off bat and pad. He had James Franklin leg before with the last ball of the afternoon session, hitting the captain on the toe, and bowled both Steve Eskinazi and Rayner after tea, the former playing round one that Poysden hurried through, the latter almost yorked.Chris Wright did his damage largely in his morning spells, finding the edge of Robson’s bat and taking a very good low return catch when Gubbins failed to control a defensive push. Nick Compton batted solidly for his 33 in a 94-run recovery stand with Malan for the third wicket but then drove loosely at Wright and was well taken by Varun Chopra. From 100 for 2 to 242 all out, Middlesex might feel they should have done better. Day two will answer that query. Jonathan Trott is in good form, Ian Bell made a match-winning 94 in the 50-over semi-final and Westwood, who made a century against Durham last week, was able to resume after a couple of hours off the field following his mishap – the ball hitting him on the head but thankfully via a deflection off the shoulder that absorbed some of the force. However, their hand is weakened slightly by the absence of Tim Ambrose, who suffered a muscle injury in the Royal London Cup victory over Somerset. Alex Mellor, who substituted for him in that match, is keeping wicket here in his first senior match for Warwickshire after gaining experience in a loan spell with Derbyshire.

"Remarkable" £15m Ace Would Be Dream Signing For Everton

Everton head into the final matchday of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign knowing that a win against Bournemouth will be enough to achieve safety.

The Toffees are in 17th place and two points clear of the relegation zone as they host the Cherries at Goodison Park on Sunday and this means that they can avoid the drop by either doing their job or by Leicester and Leeds failing to win their matches against West Ham and Tottenham respectively.

It has been a disappointing season for the club, even if they remain in the division, as they have flirted with the bottom three throughout the year, yet there have been some bright sparks – one of which has been the signing of Dwight McNeil.

The forward arrived from Burnley last summer and has been one of the team's standout performers. He is the club's top goalscorer – with seven strikes – and has three more than any other Everton player in the Premier League.

Sean Dyche could now use the upcoming summer transfer window, assuming Sunday goes smoothly, to find McNeil a dream striker to work with at the top end of the pitch.

premier-league-mcneil-everton-toffees-transfer-gossip-dyche

The head coach could unearth that player by swooping to sign reported transfer target Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough in the coming months.

How has Chuba Akpom performed this season?

In the Championship, the 27-year-old caught the eye with his impressive goalscoring exploits as an attacking midfielder and as a striker for Michael Carrick's side.

He plundered a staggering 28 goals and two assists in 35 starts, which included nine goals in 14 appearances as a number nine, in the division and averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.14.

Middlesbrough reportedly want a fee in the region of £15m for the attacker, whose season was described as "remarkable" by journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, and Everton could take a gamble on him being able to translate his form in the second tier over to the Premier League.

The ex-Arsenal man scored those 28 goals from 21.9 xG and this illustrates the Englishman's exceptional finishing quality as he was able to outperform the quality of chances he was being provided with.

This could make him a dream partner for McNeil at Everton as the former Clarets star has been let down by his teammates in the Premier League this season.

The 23-year-old, who has scored seven goals in the top flight, has created 5.9 xAG (Expected Assisted Goals) and been rewarded with three assists, which means that his fellow attackers have not been able to make the most of the opportunities he has put on a plate for them.

Akpom could, therefore, be a welcome addition to the squad for McNeil as the winger would finally have a player with the finishing ability to convert the chances being created by the winger's crossing and passing in the final third.

Instead of the current Everton attackers consistently missing their shots after receiving the ball from the young forward, the Middlesbrough star could punish opposition teams and thrive off the service that could be provided to him.

Stokes out but England otherwise unchanged

Ben Stokes has been left out of the squad for the third Test against Pakistan after MRI scans confirmed a torn calf muscle

Alan Gardner27-Jul-2016Ben Stokes has been left out of the squad for the third Test against Pakistan after MRI scans confirmed a torn calf muscle. England have opted not to replace him for Edgbaston, sticking with the 13 other players named for the Old Trafford Test, with Jake Ball, Steven Finn and Adil Rashid the candidates to come into the XI.Confirmation of a calf tear almost certainly rules Stokes out of the rest of the Test series, although England have indicated he will be reviewed by the medical team in Birmingham on Monday. With back-to-back Tests coming up, it is little more than two weeks until the final match at The Oval, starting on August 11.England squad for third Test

Alastair Cook (capt), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Gary Ballance, Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, James Vince, Chris Woakes

England levelled the series with a 330-run win at Old Trafford, in which Stokes scored 34 batting at No. 7 and took 2 for 39 in Pakistan’s first innings. He pulled up holding his right calf during his sixth over in Pakistan’s second innings and left the field immediately. He had only just returned to the side after missing three Tests with an injury to his left knee. The knee problem, which required minor surgery to fix a cartilage tear, meant Stokes played no part in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and he could now be out for the rest of the summer. England play five ODIs and a T20 international against Pakistan between August 24 and September 7.England have become used to shuffling their order this summer and Stokes’ absence is likely to see Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes all move up a place. Ball, who made his debut against Pakistan at Lord’s, or Finn, who took eight wickets on his comeback at Edgbaston last year, would provide a fourth seam-bowling option, while Rashid could play his first home Test if the pitch looks likely to turn. The policy of sticking with the same group of players seems likely to hand James Vince another chance. Vince is currently averaging 18.57 after five Tests, with a high score of 42, and has yet to prove himself in England’s new-look middle-order.England’s dominant performance at Old Trafford was based around a century from Alastair Cook and Joe Root’s career-best 254 at No. 3, but, despite the margin of victory, some issues remain. Gary Ballance’s return to Test cricket has resulted in scores of 6, 43 and 23, while Alex Hales has struggled against Pakistan’s new-ball bowlers. Moeen Ali’s all-round contribution has also come under scrutiny, although he picked up five wickets in the second Test, his best returns since being named Man of the Match in England’s win in Durban before Christmas.

Rangers Scout 23 y/o "Top Professional"

Glasgow Rangers scouted goalkeeper Ivor Pandur over the weekend ahead of a potential move, according to The Daily Mail.

What’s the latest Rangers transfer news involving Pandur?

Michael Beale appears to be making a head start when it comes to possible signings prior to his first full season in charge. It looks set to be a busy few months in the transfer market when it comes to incomings and outgoings, with a number of players out of contract at Ibrox.

Chelsea right-back Dujon Sterling and Norwich City midfielder Kieran Dowell appear to be close to making the move north on free transfers, with the former of the two having a tour of the Gers’ training centre. Up to 10 new additions could be made this summer, one of which may be Pandur following a recent update.

The Daily Mail shared more Rangers news in their transfer confidential story in the last 48 hours, with the club making their first move for Pandur.

They said that Gers scouts checked in on Pandur for Fortuna Sittard against PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, with the goalkeeper under consideration over a summer transfer. A move for Jack Butland is seemingly too expensive at this moment in time, with Pandur appearing to be an alternative.

Who is Pandur?

You can see why Rangers are on the hunt for a new shot-stopper this summer, with Allan McGregor one of those who is out of contract in a matter of weeks and looks destined to call time on his time with the Light Blues.

Pandur, a Croatia U21 international, is 23 years of age and is on loan at Fortuna Sittard from Hellas Verona. He has made 29 appearances for his current employers, and a permanent move appears to be on the cards. He has even recently been hailed by Sjoerd Ars, Fortuna’s technical manager, who described the player as a "top professional".

“Ivor has developed fantastically this season. The rack isn’t finished yet. He is a top professional, works hard every day and always with a big smile. We are of course super happy that we have now managed to capture him for four seasons.”

Therefore, if Rangers can’t get a deal over the line for Butland, Pandur, who was previously linked with Liverpool, could be a shrewd target, potentially arriving to challenge Robby McCrorie next season in what will be Beale’s first full season in charge.

Newcastle: Ashworth Plotting Swoop To Sign £17m Dynamo

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their plans to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window…

What's the latest on Carlos Augusto to Newcastle?

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, the Magpies are one of a number of clubs tracking Monza left-back Carlos Augusto ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The report claims that Inter and Juventus, along with some unnamed Premier League teams, are also keen on the defender, who is valued at around €20m (£17m) by his current club.

It is stated that Newcastle are eyeing up the enforcer with a view to making an offer for his services at the end of the season, particularly if they qualify for the Champions League.

Is Carlos Augusto better than Dan Burn?

Toon sporting director Dan Ashworth could land Eddie Howe an upgrade on current left-back Dan Burn with this proposed swoop to sign the Brazilian as his performances this term suggest that he is a better player.

Newcastle defender Dan Burn.

Burn, who is a central defender by trade, has started 32 matches in the Premier League this season and been a key component for the head coach throughout the campaign.

However, his average Sofascore rating of 6.77 ranks him 13th in the squad. He has also made 2.5 tackles and interceptions per game whilst winning 56% of his duels in the division.

Augusto, meanwhile, has averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.00 in the Serie A for Monza and won 55% of his battles whilst making 2.7 tackles and interceptions per match.

The 24-year-old machine has also scored six goals and provided five assists – creating five 'big chances' for his teammates – in his 31 appearances in the Italian top-flight.

Burn does not carry the same attacking threat as the Englishman has failed to produce a single goal or assist in the Premier League this season – creating just three 'big chances' in total.

These statistics suggest that the "impressive" – as he was once dubbed by journalist Josh Bunting – Monza star would come in as a big upgrade on the Newcastle defender due to his average performance level, his defensive contributions, and his quality on the ball in forward areas.

Augusto is also seven years younger than Burn and would come in with more long-term potential, to go along with possibly being an immediate upgrade on the full-back position.

Ashworth must now work hard to beat Inter and Juventus to his signature this summer.

Record-breaking Beaumont sets up whitewash

In the end, England won by 202 runs with Pakistan, replying to 366 for 4, bowled out for 164, in the 45th over.Having won the toss on a typically flat Taunton wicket, England found few difficulties in coping with the Pakistan attack. Beaumont and Lauren Winfield, who put on 235 for the first wicket at Worcester last Wednesday, made a decent start before Winfield became Sana Mir’s first of two victims, caught by Maham Tariq, at mid-off, at 59 for 1.Thereafter, there was precious little over which to enthuse for the tourists as England made the most of the friendly conditions and some desperately poor fielding.Beaumont passed 50 off 70 balls and featured in a thrilling 166-run partnership with Georgia Elwiss, who put behind her two modest contributions with the bat to score 77 from 78 balls. She passed 50 off 57 balls before being bowled by Mir at 225 for 2 in the 39th over. The arrival of Nat Sciver brought even greater agony for Pakistan. With Beaumont in full flow, the pair added 119 off just 58 balls, in 39 minutes. Sciver struck six fours and a six in her 48 off 22 deliveries.Beaumont posted her century off 111 balls, with nine fours, and reached 150 off 133 balls with a further eight boundaries. Having scored 70 and 104 in the first two matches of the series, Beaumont took her tally against Pakistan to 342 at an average of 171.00 – setting a new record for runs scored by an Englishwoman in a three-match series.Pakistan, who were never likely to trouble England’s considerable total, found themselves in early trouble when Katherine Brunt held on to a regulation catch to dismiss Sidra Ameen for 9, with the score on 16 for 1. Three runs later, Anya Shrubshole picked up a second wicket, that of Javeria Khan. This time Winfield was the catcher as Pakistan slumped to 19 for 2.Brunt, who bowled with great accuracy and, at times, hostility, took her first wicket in the eighth over. Nain Abidi attempted to hook a short delivery from the pace bowler. Unfortunately, instead of dispatching the ball to the boundary, as planned, she gloved a catch to wicket keeper Amy Jones, leaving Pakistan 22 for 3.Faced with a near impossible situation, Pakistan did their best to make a decent fist of things. Bismah Maroof and Sidra Nawaz added 74 off 89 balls for the fourth wicket, and Nawaz and Mir 21 for the fifth. However, when Nawaz departed, bowled by Laura Marsh for 47 in the 31st over, Pakistan’s hopes of getting within 150 all but disappeared.Marsh returned the figures of 3 for 29 and Shrubsole 2 for 17. However, Brunt was the pick of the England attack, finishing with 5 for 30 off 9.5 overs as Pakistan were bowled out for 164 off the penultimate ball of the 45th over.

Spurs Have Made Contact With Julian Nagelsmann

Journalist Alasdair Gold has given some insight into Tottenham Hotspur's search for a new manager and has suggested that contact has been established with out-of-work candidates and that Spurs are 'past the research stage'.

What's the latest manager news involving Tottenham Hotspur?

As per 90min, former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and Spanish coach Luis Enrique have held talks with Tottenham over the managerial vacancy in north London and asked questions about how the club is run.

The report also states that out-of-work pair Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers are under consideration by Spurs, while several other candidates in employment have also been linked, including Feyenoord's Arne Slot, Xabi Alonso, Vincent Kompany, Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick.

One outlet in France has also claimed that Lille boss Paulo Fonseca is also in the frame to take over; however, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also keen to hire the 50-year-old in the summer.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Celtic's Ange Postecoglou have also been touted for the role, though it is still unclear who will be the next Tottenham head coach.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Gold has indicated that contact has been initiated with out-of-work candidates:

"What we can say is they seem to be now past the research stage where they're looking into the candidates, compiling their shortlist and now we're at the stage where those managers in jobs, they're going to start discussions with. It appears that they have already had some discussions with those out of work. Obviously, contact has been made with Julian Nagelsmann."

What next for Tottenham Hotspur?

In the here and now, Ryan Mason is currently in charge at Spurs and will try his best to fire his side up for their remaining matches, though being able to finish in the top four looks like a tough ask at the moment.

Tottenham still have four Premier League fixtures left to complete and face some tricky opponents, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Brentford and Leeds United still to come.

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason talks to Pedro Porro

Spurs sit in seventh place in the Premier League and face the possibility of seeing their hopes of securing any continental football fading into the distance unless they can try and string a run of results together, as Aston Villa and Brentford linger not far behind them.

Mason will need to try and get a tune out of his players before a likely busy summer gets underway at Hotspur Way following a disappointing 2022/23.

Although Champions League football may be out of the window, it will be interesting to see how hard Spurs fight for the remaining two European competitions available to them to qualify for.
