Celtic: Journalist claims Olivier Ntcham has agreed Parkhead exit

Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham looks set to join AEK Athens after they ‘agreed personal terms’, as relayed by Greek football journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos on Twitter.

The Lowdown: Celtic face mini-exodus ahead of 2021/22

As Celtic get set to re-shape their squad heading into 2021/22, multiple senior exits are expected at Parkhead as they seek to reclaim the Premiership title from their Glasgow rivals at the first attempt.

Odsonne Edouard has been heavily linked away with moves to West Ham and Leicester [Football Insider], whilst Ryan Christie has also received interest from the Foxes alongside Nice and Monaco [The Scottish Sun].

However, another face could be the first casualty of Ange Postecoglou’s reign at Celtic following recent developments.

The Latest: Ntcham has ‘agreed personal terms’ with AEK Athens

As claimed by Sportime.gr journalist Chorianopoulos on Twitter that Ntcham has settled on a move to Greece, he stated: “AEK Athens officials are optimistic that Olivier Ntcham will be a free agent from July 1. Greek club and French player have agreed personal terms”

Ntcham has been something of a forgotten man in recent times for Celtic, spending the second half of 2020/21 on loan at French club Marseille [Transfermarkt].

The Verdict: Right time for Ntcham and Celtic to part ways

Upon reflection, it is probably the right time for Celtic and the midfielder to part ways. An important player during his time at the club, Ntcham registered 37 goal contributions in 147 games during his time in Glasgow, with 24 goals and 13 assists [Transfermarkt].

Most memorably during his Parkhead stint, he scored a famous winner away to Lazio in the Europa League group stage in November 2019, with a deft chip in a 2-1 triumph for the Hoops which sent them to the knockout stages [Sky Sports].

Not being able to recoup a transfer fee for the 25-year-old will disappoint the Hoops hierarchy, but the chance to clear his £14,000-a-week wages [Salary Sport] from the books will free up funds to put towards a capable midfield replacement.

In other news, this pundit gives his verdict on the Hoops’ pursuit of a 31-goal striker.

Batsmen's job not done yet, warns Vaughan

Michael Vaughan says England are aiming at a total well in excess of 400 to put Australia under pressure in the second Test at Adelaide

CricInfo21-Nov-2002Michael Vaughan says England are aiming at a total well in excess of 400 to put Australia under pressure in the second Test at Adelaide. The Yorkshire opener hit 177 out of 295 for four as England began an Ashes fightback after they were overwhelmed by 384 runs in the first Test at Brisbane.”If we can try and get 450 on the board we can try and put the Aussies under some pressure,” Vaughan said. “It is a good pitch, quite slow. It has a few cracks on it, so it may get a bit uneven over the next two or three days.”Vaughan warned that England can expect no easy pickings for his Yorkshire team-mate, off-spinner Richard Dawson, when Australia come to bat.”It is quite inviting for the sweep off the spinners with short square boundaries, so it will be tough for young Dawson to bowl on it,” he said.Vaughan described his own innings, the highest in Tests by an English batsman in Australia since Mike Denness hit 188 in Melbourne on the 1974-75 tour, as the pinnacle of his career.”It hasn’t really sunk in yet but it’s something you dream about from a youngage – of coming to Australia and doing well,” said Vaughan. “The most important thing is that England are in a good position on what at the moment is a good Adelaide wicket.”It’s probably the best of all my hundreds simply because you are playingagainst Australia. It’s a good wicket but they are always asking questions andthey have got a fantastic attack. The hundreds in the summer were great but to score a hundred against Australia in Australia has to be the pinnacle.”Vaughan was also adamant that despite his dismissal in the last over of the day, England would have settled for 295 for four before the start.”It’s been a good day for us,” he said. “We would have been happy for that at the start of the day. It’s a good wicket which is taking a little spin and I think over the next few days it should get more uneven and harder for the batsman to score on.”Vaughan had a let-off on 19 when Queensland seamer Andy Bichel appeared to have him caught at cover by Justin Langer, but the third umpire Steve Davis ruled that TV replays were inconclusive and gave Vaughan the benefit of the doubt.”I was in my rights to stand my ground, because I was not sure if he had caught it,” said Vaughan. “Obviously they were disappointed because they thought he had.”

Pundit confident Maty Ryan could cope with pressure at Celtic

Steve Howey reckons that Mat Ryan could cope with the pressure of playing for Celtic.

According to Sky Sports, the Scottish Premiership giants are interested in bringing the goalkeeper to Parkhead this summer.

Celtic struggled for a first-choice shot-stopper last term, with both Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain sharing the number one shirt, although even youngster Conor Hazard was given first-team action.

But reports believe that new manager Ange Postecoglou wants to work with Ryan again following their time together with the Australian national team.

Ryan spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal having lost his number one shirt at Brighton to Robert Sanchez, although the 29-year-old has since revealed his confusion as to why he was dropped by Graham Potter.

He wasn’t even included on the bench for the final eight games before he moved to north London, which suggests that his days at Brighton might be numbered and could therefore open the door for a switch to Celtic.

Howey exclusively told Football FanCast:

“Some players can flourish and embrace it completely.

“I would have thought the lad would cope with it, I’d be very surprised if he didn’t, to play for a club like Celtic with their history and the fans.

“For any player, unless you’re desperate to play in the Premier League, to play for a club like Celtic would be fantastic.”

Sky Sports back major West Ham development

Backing reports made through the media, Sky Sports have now dropped their own update on manager David Moyes’ situation at West Ham United.

The Lowdown: Moyes new deal?

Moyes has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks after a phenomenal 2020/2021 season with West Ham.

Indeed, the Scotsman guided them to what was an arguably unexpected Europa League finish, especially given they ended the season prior in 16th place – narrowly avoiding relegation.

As a result of his brilliant job at the London Stadium, the club recently rewarded him with the offer of a new deal – but Everton’s managerial situation threw a spanner in the works.

After Carlo Ancelotti left the Toffees for Real Madrid, Moyes became linked with a return to Goodison Park and worry emerged over his future in east London.

The Latest: Sky back reports of Moyes development…

Backing other claims, Sky Sports have now come out with their own update on the Moyes’ contract situation.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news-2/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, in what is good news for West Ham fans, the broadcaster say Moyes has in fact agreed a new three-year deal.

“David Moyes, we’re hearing, agrees a new three-year contract,” explained Sky (via Football Daily).

“A very much deserved reward for the season he guided West Ham through.

“There have been talks of him going perhaps elsewhere, even Everton, a return there.

“But, it looks like he’s staying at West Ham, the terms have been agreed, it just needs to be finalised.”

The Verdict: Great news for the Hammers…

News of Moyes committing his future, with it now looking like he is indeed staying, definitely comes as great news for the Hammers.

The 58-year-old has done a fine job for West Ham, re-installing faith and excitement with a big 2021/2022 campaign looming.

West Ham have qualified for the Europa League group stage through their sixth-placed finish last season and supporters will be ecstatic to hear Moyes won’t be going anywhere.

ExWHUemployee’s ‘huge news’ has fans excited

Taking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have shared their excitement after ExWHUemployee’s update on a very popular player at Rush Green.

Indeed, as per the reliable club insider, goalkeeper David Martin may not be leaving the club after all.

According to Ex, the 35-year-old could now stay on at the London Stadium in the possible role of working with academy keepers and as a back up option (Twitter).

He was originally touted with a possible exit from east London, with the insider recently claiming that he did look set to leave although there was a chance he could stay.

The latter scenario now looks more likely to take place in a development which has excited plenty of supporters on social media.

A known West Ham fan, Martin is also apparently a ‘very popular’ player behind the scenes and ‘very good person’ off the field – leaving little wonder why fans are happy to hear he could be staying.

One supporter even branded it ‘huge news’, find a flavour of their best verdicts down below.

Reed says Levy could appoint Parker

Les Reed told Football FanCast that Daniel Levy would not be scared to appoint Scott Parker as the next Tottenham manager.

The Spurs chairman is reportedly a fan of the Fulham boss, and has been watching his progress at Craven Cottage over recent months.

Parker might have two relegations on his CV but has produced some impressive work in west London despite his failure to guide the Cottagers to Premier League safety this season.

At one stage, his Fulham side looked good to avoid the drop, but two points from their previous 10 matches saw them made an immediate return to the Championship.

Those two points came at Old Trafford and the Emirates, whilst Fulham’s last league victory came at Anfield, proof that Parker can rub it with the best.

High-profile names like Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte appear ahead of Parker in the pecking order to replace Jose Mourinho, but Reed exclusively told Football FanCast that Fulham’s struggle this season won’t put off Levy:

“I could see Daniel putting faith in Scott Parker.

“Daniel is brave, so I could see him not worrying about Fulham, but looking at how did Fulham play? They got off to a bad start, what changes did he make? He changed the entire back four. I think he would look at that and say ‘he’s not afraid of making decisions’.

“All of those things will be really positive because he was a popular player, popular coach and did really well, which is why Daniel was comfortable with Ryan Mason holding the reins.”
